This unit will guide students through reading and analyzing "The Outsiders." Students will explore themes of class conflict, friendship, and identity while developing their comprehension and critical thinking skills. The unit will include formative assessments, discussions, and creative assignments.

This is a bundle of three dice roll writing assignments. This bundle includes assignments about author's purpose, rhetorical appeals, and character reading response which works for any book.

With these assignments, students roll a die to determine the format, topic, and character/rhetorical appeal/purpose they will use for their writing piece. These assignments offer a lot of flexibility and options for students. They are fun and engaging! This resource includes writing rubrics for the character reading response and author's purpose assignments.

These sentence diagramming bell ringers will last four full months. This bundle contains sixteen Google Slide presentations- one for each week. There is also an assessment for the end of week four, the end of week seven, the end of week twelve, and the end of week 16 to test student knowledge. The daily activities should last 5-10 minutes. EVERYTHING IS EDITABLE.

With this activity, students will use a die to determine the format, topic, and purpose to use in their writing assignment. Students should have a solid understanding of what it means for an author to persuade, inform, or entertain before diving in to this activity. A rubric is included. This is meant to be a fun, amusing exercise for students learning about author's purpose. Both the instructions and the rubric come in color and b/w.

This resource should accompany The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. Upper elementary, middle school, and high school students need reading fluency practice too, but we don't always think about it at these stages. This editable resource asks students to practice a passage directly from The Diary of Anne Frank and focus on accuracy, pace, expression, and punctuation. Students are asked to practice reading the passage to an adult. I have always had my students record themselves reading the passage at the end of a week, and I grade them using the same rubric that is on this assignment.
