It involves observing a situation, then using clues with background knowledge to figure out what has happened or what is happening. The ability to make social inferences is an essential social skill. ▶️ This is an comprehensive Picture Inference Lesson PACKET that includes at least eight activities where students can practice the skill of social inferencing using pictures that are relevant to this day in age. There are a total of 10 pictures that students will use to make inferences. Students have multiple opportunities to observe a social situation and combine picture clues and their background knowledge to figure out what is happening. Students can make inferences about how the people in the pictures are feeling, what they are doing, what they may be thinking, and what situation they may be in.

How/When To Use Scenario Task Cards

• Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate appropriate responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to show how "response" skills are used improperly and then asking the 'audience' to help reenact properly. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills and further help students understand the difference between appropriate and inappropriate responses to people's body language and gestures.
• Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes related to body language then perform the skit for the class.
• Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios.
• Discussion: Students can discuss the Body Language / Non-verbal Communication Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class. They can discuss things like “What would you do?”, “Why would you do that?”, and “What are some other options you could consider?”

This resource includes two sets of Picture Inference Task Cards (80 cards in total) that are differentiated to meet the needs of both lower-level and higher-level students. The pictures in these task cards are very relevant as students "see" these everyday images almost anywhere they go!

DESCRIPTION

▶️ The first set of 40 cards, which are the color RED, have pictures that students can use to make inferences. These RED Picture Inference Task Cards include guiding questions to help lower level students make inferences.

▶️ The second set of 40 cards, which are the color GREEN, have the SAME pictures that students can use to make inferences, but without the guiding questions. Along with primary sources, there are Document-Based Questions (DBQs). Additionally, each resource includes a one-page sheet for students that explains what primary sources are and how to analyze them using specific questions through a process called HAPPY. Examples of primary sources include cartoons, diary and journal excerpts, indenture contracts, political cartoons, letters, and more. Each page of primary sources includes questions. Each resource includes two DBQ prompts which help students to weigh and evaluate the significance of women's actions, thoughts and contributions during the era.

A page near the end of each resource allows students to apply the HAPPY process to one source. An Answer Key to all the questions and the DBQs and the HAPPY process is available at the end of the packet.

This is excellent practice for all high school students, particularly Honors and AP students, but all students will find these resources engaging.

Students can read this on their own as a homework assignment or it can be a group activity in a classroom. It is also ideally suited for home-schoolers, college students or independent learners who want to learn more. Teachers can assign just a few sources to analyze or the entire packet. Student time will vary. A Worksheet with questions based on the reading is included, along with an Answer Key. Each resource can take up to 2-3 class periods depending on whether they complete the entire packet or just complete portions of it.

These product can be used with students who are learning English and American Sign Language. It can serve as an in class practice, review, or quiz.

In the first section of the nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections, and contractions products, students will learn the English word and the sign for each given word. Students will be required to write the word in their native language if a first language has previously been mastered.

In the second section, students will be provided with a dictionary for the nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections, and contractions products that are reviewed. Students will be provided with a picture, the word, and the sign to help students make a connection and learn the word and sign.

At the end of this section, students will be required to make up 10 - 20 sentences using the nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections, and contractions that were learned. In the fourth section of the product, students can review what they learned based on the example sentence (if provided), picture, and sign that are included for each word. Students will then be required to make up a sentence using each word in English.
