High School English Language Arts Rubrics (by price, low to high)

If your students will be doing a Socratic Seminar in class, make things easy on yourself and score them using this teacher-friendly rubric during the discussion! It includes the following categories:

1. Analysis and use of details and evidence

2. Understanding of the text

3. Active listening, speaking, and behavior

4. Preparation

There is a space at the bottom for additional teachers comments, as well as an area for students to write a reflection on their performance and the grade they received.

This rubric can be used with ANY text!

This guided descriptive essay asks students to describe a nutcracker. There are three separate options to use based on the level and ability of your students.

Option 1: A full five-paragraph essay with three body paragraphs and an introduction and conclusion are required. This includes a planning page, a student requirement page, and a rubric.

Option 2: A fill-in-the-blank essay is used for young writers learning to spell and write. Includes planning page, student requirement page, and nutcracker to color according to description.

Please note, the editable version does not contain the same fonts and borders that are in the PDF version because they are copyrighted materials by contributing clip art artists. The editable version has been created using Times New Roman fonts to ensure full and complete access of the rubrics without any formatting issues. Ultimately, and this has happened with me, administrators may say, “Students were engaged in rigorous classroom talk, and that's great, but how are you tracking this discussion?” YIKES! Two of the Accountable Data Trackers are "Student Trackers" and titled “My Discussion Tracker” where students can keep track of their own participation during classroom talk.
