Two versions of the lesson are included: one is a shorter version to create just one fashion and the other is a longer version to create a fashion line (6-8 items) which are combined into a collage. Depending on the class and the amount of time available, the teacher can choose which version is most appropriate. Both versions include a writing and reflection component to the lesson, giving students the opportunity to consider how they made their design choices. Links to tutorials for the programs are also provided to assist students with their creations. A basic knowledge of Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop is helpful if those programs are being used. However, beginning students can incorporate tutorials with this lesson to successfully learn the program as they create their designs.\x3Cp>This is a great activity for a career exploration class, Principles of Arts, A/V Technology & Communications class, Family & Consumer Sciences, Fashion Design, or any technology class. Next, students research specific computer hardware components and “build” two different computers, using either MS Excel or Google Sheets, and remaining within a given budget. A template in Excel that can also be opened in Sheets is provided. Teacher and student resources are included with instructions, sites for research and lesson extension ideas. A basic grading rubric for each project, is also included.\x3C/p>\x3Cp>The projects can be completed individually, or students can work in pairs. Computer Hardware & Software - Build a Computer | Distance Learning
By Innovations in Technology
Teach the basics of computer hardware and software while letting students explore what's inside the computer! This unit helps students explore and understand the basic components inside the computer. This is perfect for any technology class in upper elementary or middle school. All files provided are fully editable, allowing teachers to make modifications for differentiation or personalization if they choose.
A Microsoft PowerPoint presentation (fully editable) is included to introduce the topic to the class and can be used as a whole class presentation or provided to students to explore on their own. The first part of the assignment involves students identifying and defining the parts of the computer, using either MS PowerPoint or Google Slides to create a presentation. Next, students research specific computer hardware components and “build” two different computers, using either MS Excel or Google Sheets, and remaining within a given budget. A template in Excel that can also be opened in Sheets is provided. Teacher and student resources are included with instructions, sites for research and lesson extension ideas. A basic grading rubric for each project, is also included.
The projects can be completed individually, or students can work in pairs. These projects were created for grades 7-8 but could also be used with upper elementary students.
Materials Required
· Access to computers for each student (or small group)
· Internet access
· Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel OR Google Slides and Sheets
Project Duration (approximate, per topic)
· PowerPoint presentation: .5-1 (50 minute) class period
· Definitions – Student Presentation project: 1-2 (50 minute) class periods
· Research and “Build” Computers project: 2 (50 minute) class periods
Files Included with this Lesson
· Teacher & Student Notes and Resources
· Computer Components PowerPoint Presentation (editable)
· Student Definitions Presentation Project Expectations & Grading Rubric (editable)

Designing Your Own Fashions | Distance Learning
By Innovations in Technology
In this lesson, students create fashions of their own using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop or Microsoft Paint. Students can also use one of these free Web 2.0 tools: SketchPad (https://sketch.io/sketchpad/) or SumoPaint (https://www.sumopaint.com/home/#app) that do not require download. However, beginning students can incorporate tutorials with this lesson to successfully learn the program as they create their designs.
This is a great activity for a career exploration class, Principles of Arts, A/V Technology & Communications class, Family & Consumer Sciences, Fashion Design, or any technology class. This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in high school as well.

By Mandy LaCour
This is a great project for your advanced level fashion students.
Prior Knowledge: They need to have created a Mood/Inspiration Board.
They are instructed to use that mood board to create a garment for a "Barbie".
Supplies:
*I had my students use their Mood Board as the backdrop for their photo shoot.
By Mandy LaCour
This is a great project for your advanced fashion design students. They can make this mood board at the beginning of the school year so they can be posted around the classroom.
Supplies Needed:
By Mandy LaCour
This is a great activity for students to do at the beginning of your Fashion Designer Unit. I like to use it as the first step in my Fashion Designer Research Project.
About this Activity
Suggested Timeline:
I give my students one class period to get this activity completed.
This product is a digital download.
Fashion Design Final Project Choices
By Mandy LaCour
This project is great for your fashion design students in your entry level class. I usually give my students 10 class days to complete whatever choice they would like to work on from the list. Feel free to give your students whatever timeline fits your lesson plan. I like giving the students choices in case there are students who would like to sketch instead of sewing. No matter what project they choose they are still required to type a paper that discusses the elements and principles of design. Each project has a different set of elements and principles of design that are required for the paper since sometimes it is easier to include certain ones in sewing projects versus sketches.
Prior Knowledge needed:
This project assumes that your class has covered the elements and principles of design but if you have not then feel free to omit that part of the project.
This download includes a rubric as well.
20th Century Fashion Mood Board Project
By Mandy LaCour
This is a great project to do once you have covered 20th century fashion. Student will create an informational mood board about a decade that you assign to them. The instructions list tasks and specific information that students must include about their particular decade. My students usually get their mood boards completed within 2-3 days, depending on their thoroughness.
Supplies needed:
poster board
glue stick/glue gun
fabric swatches
fashion magazines
various trinkets for students to use to "jazz up" their mood boards
Alternative Application: students could also make their mood board digitally on Canva or google slides.
Rubric is included!
Fashion History Magazine Project
By Mandy LaCour
This is a Fashion History Magazine Project that is perfect for high school students in any class that covers fashion history. This is a great alternative option to the regular research paper assignment. This project gives students more creativity to create and design using a variety of magazine components. They are instructed to create a magazine article, sketch fashion garments, create a mood board as well as design a magazine advertisement for a product from their time period. This product also includes a rubric for students.
MY Color Season Project - Advanced Fashion Design
By Mandy LaCour
This project is great for advanced fashion students and gives them a chance to design or create outfits that are complementary to their color season.
Prior Knowledge: It is helpful for students to know their color seasons prior to this assignment. This document however does include 2 QR code links that help students figure out their color season. It is just not very thorough.
By Mandy LaCour
This project is a great tool to help your advanced fashion students create their own fashion line. I use it so my students can plan out what garments they are planning on constructing throughout the school year. Once the students complete this activity, I meet with each of the students individually to go over and discuss their plans and ideas for their fashion line.
There is a list of construction requirements listed that my students must include in their various garments.
