Using Exit Cards is an effective way to evaluate the progress each student. These can be used as Entrance or Exit cards depending on how it works best for you and your students. Which card is shared first, Entrance or Exit, is up to the teacher. The order is not dependent. Entrance cards are used for the purpose of helping students synthesize their learning. However, they can also be used as a formative assessment tool for the next day or week’s lesson. Teachers may place a prompt on the Entrance Card and provide time for students to think about their learning. This set includes 29 Exit Cards that can be used for any Social Studies lesson.

You may have some parents who prefer their child to not be taught this within the classroom setting. If your district has a policy where parents can request their child not attend class during a sensitive topic, then send out a letter to all parents communicating that your class is starting a unit on world religions and have them sign it to opt-out or opt-in. Follow your district’s guidelines.

A Celebration of Black Geographers & Their Accomplishments!

Geography seeks to study our planet and tell the stories of the people who inhabit it. But what stories are told? And who is chosen to tell them? Throughout history, often Black geographers were not given credit for their explorations and discoveries. This is a great lesson for geography for Black History Month.

1492: Among the crew on the Santa Maria during Christopher Columbus's voyage to the Americas is Pedro Alonzo Nino, a black man. Africans also accompany Ponce de Leon, Hernando Cortes, Francisco Pizarro, Hernando de Soto, and Francisco Vasquez de Coronado in the early 16th century and it is said they helped with the discoveries.

This lesson brings to light and gives credit to 14 Blacks who were geographical explorers throughout history. Students also have the option to choose to research a past or present geographer outside of those specific to this lesson, which gives them student autonomy and ownership of their learning..

The learner will:

• Gain a greater understanding of Black geographers / explores contributions and role in history.
• Analyze how Black explorers impacted the occupations in geography.
• Gain an understanding of how unnoticed black geographers aided in creating a passageway for following Black generations to appreciate geography.

This is a great way to get your students excited about studying a historical or current figure. Students use research and inference skills to create a resume for a historical or current figure. The example given is Mao Zedong's Resume'. Students will create an objective as to what job the character is applying. The character's education, work experience, etc. will be included. Globalization and Interdependence describes the relationships of mutual dependence between all elements and life forms (including humans) within and across cultures, environments, and social systems. A fun social studies and geography activity for your students to learn about Christmas traditions and cultures around the world. Appropriate for all ages, from middle school through high school. This can be used in all social studies classes and makes a great holiday & winter break activity. Not only will students have fun with this Christmas geography activity, but they will be learning. Every moment is a teaching moment**.**

Students will work in collaborative groups. Each team will need a whiteboard to write their answers on. Each "Hint" slide includes five hints, one displayed at a time until all hints are presented. Each team will be given 10 seconds to write their answer on answer on the board. When the teacher says, "Jingle bells." All teams show their answers. Each team that guesses the correct answer will receive a token.

Note: A map for each team may be of some help. Have fun! I know your students will. For middle school and high school.

INSTRUCTIONS:

• Students will be assigned a team.
• As the hints appear on each slide, teammates will determine what country to which the hints are referring.
• You will write your answer on your whiteboard.
• Once all 5 hints are presented, you will have 10 seconds to write the name of the country on your whiteboard.
• The instructor will say “Jingle Bells,” communicating that you may show your answer.
• Each team that gets the answer correct will receive a token.
• At the end of the trivia game, the team that has the most tokens wins!

A Lesson on the event leading up to the Ukraine Crisis 2022. In order to understand this, students need to take a deep look into the history of the struggle Ukraine has had with its more powerful neighbors in its attempts to become independent. Finally, in 1991, Ukraine was free of domination and created its own government system, and claimed independence for the first time in history. In an attempt to reach independence, there has been a great amount of bloodshed over the centuries.
