A photo gallery walk is a fun and engaging way to get your student actively involved in the learning process. Students will work together in teams or cooperative groups and will travel through 12 picture galleries learning about the different world religions: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism among other religions. This is a great activity for an introductory lesson or for a reinforcement activity!

Covers the traditions and practices of the world’s most influential religions of the world: Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islamism, Taoism, Animism, Shintoism, Monotheism, Polytheism & non-religions: Atheism, Agnosticism. The lesson teaches the difference between polytheistic and monotheistic religions.

OBJECTIVE:

• The learner will become familiar with world religions’ cultural hearth, beliefs, and practices.
• The learner will recognize and understand key terms of each world religion.
• The learner will examine the beliefs, traditions, and customs of the major religions of the world.
• The learner will determine the similarities and differences between each world religion.

MATERIALS:

• Copies of each gallery, laminated for future use and durability. (Place these around the room or in the hall if more room is needed)
• Use adhesive to adhere all 12 gallery sheets to the wall, spread out as if you were in a gallery.
• Post-it notes for each group
• A clipboard or a piece of paper for each group to place their sticky notes on as they move around the room.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
World religions can be a sensitive topic. When presenting the religions and discussing them do not show any bias’ toward one religion. Remain neutral so as not to lean to accept one religion over the other. This is a factual lesson that helps students understand culture throughout the world as many cultural practices are relative to a specific religion within the region. You may have some parents who prefer their child to not be taught this within the classroom setting. If your district has a policy where parents can request their child not attend class during a sensitive topic, then send out a letter to all parents communicating that your class is starting a unit on world religions and have them sign it to opt-out or opt-in. Follow your district’s guidelines.

(Look it up on Youtube) Depending on your classroom/school culture, you may or may not choose to use this. This is not mandatory for the lesson, but song and music is a good way to engage students. In saying this, the lyrics included in the lesson have been rewritten to take out questionable wording/content. i.e. LSD, Porno, Hell. These words have been replaced with other words. However, the words cannot be taken out of the Youtube video or song. The lyrics can be used without the video or song, but will not be as effective. IMPORTANT: YOU WILL WANT TO LISTEN TO THE SONG PRIOR TO PURCHASE as this song may not be appropriate for all students/classes/schools. You as the educator are responsible for gaging what is appropriate for your students and are responsible for what is presented to them.

This a great, fun way to introduce and understand the causes and consequences, as well as the differences between immigration, emigration, & migration— Incorporates music and allows interaction through cooperative groups!

Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year and Spring Festival, is an annual 15-day Chinese festival that begins with the new moon that occurs between January 21 and February 20. It is an important part of Asian history and is considered the most important celebration for families and includes a week of official public holidays. Using Exit Cards is an effective way to evaluate the progress each student. These can be used as Entrance or Exit cards depending on how it works best for you and your students. Which card is shared first, Entrance or Exit, is up to the teacher. The order is not dependent. Entrance cards are used for the purpose of helping students synthesize their learning. However, they can also be used as a formative assessment tool for the next day or week’s lesson. What is the difference between a formal, functional, and perceptual region?

What is a nodal point? How can there be regions that cannot be measured and are specifically based on feelings and perceptions? Can all regions be found on a map? Do they always have a clearly defined boundary?

Fun and exciting for all Ages - Middle School through High School

What a great way to review the geographical location of countries you study throughout the year! Students absolutely love countiries and continents Around the World game so much that they are disappointed that class is over. This world geography game has been played with my students throughout the year, usually at the later part of the year or end of the year, to reinforce students' recall of countries' geographical locations. As the intructor, I couldn't wait to play it with my students because I knew how much fun learning was going to be!

It is important for students to have a basic geographical understanding of the world around them. This game requires students to challenge each other by identifying the continents of each country presented.

Example: On which continent does Malaysia lie? On which continent does Madagascar lie? The student that is able to recall the location, moves on to travel "Around the World". This game moves quickly so that students are constantly involved and eager to participate, cheering one another on.

My students were required to learn where each country was located through study and map quizzes. It is important that students be able to identify the geographical location of each country so when they read/watch about current events, they have a geographical understanding of where the event is occurring in the world. Yes, they can always look it up, but are they going to?

Once you prepare the cards you can use them year after year.
