In this product, students will learn about World War 1, common names used for this war, how this war was started, when it started, who was involved in it - Allies, Central Powers, who remained neutral during the war, and when America joined in on the war, which side they were on, and why they joined the war, why Americans didn't want to get involved in World War 1 in the beginning, the ocean liner - Lusitania and how that influenced America to join the war, Woodrow Wilson and his part in the war, what Allies means, trenches that were built in the battlefield and why, how long soldiers stayed in them and why, who surrendered at the end of World War 1, when the war ended, how many soldiers died during the war, the treaty that signed at the end of the war and who signed it, how countries changed after the war, the jobs that women had after World War 1, when women could vote - the 19th Amendment, the order in which the first 15 states gave women the right to vote, the 3 states that ratified the 19th Amendment, African Americans after World War 1 and how this was the beginning of the civil rights movement, where African Americans moved after World War 1, the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendment and how they were important in the United States.

The notes are adapted to meet your student's individual learning needs. Throughout the product, after each page of notes is reviewed, students will answer comprehension questions to review what was discussed on previous pages. At the end of the product, students are provided with a review that includes multiple choice questions and short answer questions.

Greek Gods Scavenger Hunt (No Prep!)

This is a scavenger hunt using task cards that is based on Greek Gods which are part of what that are studied in the 6th grade curriculum within Comparative Classical Civilizations in the Eastern Hemisphere for Ancient Greece. This resource begins by challenging students with a mission, complete the tasks to solve the mystery word and four digit code to have the Greek Gods offer you immortality and a seat in Mount Olympus. Students will read about Zeus, Poseidon, Hermes, Hera, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Hephaestus and Demeter. This activity will have students reading about each Greek God; their symbols, what they were god of, and their importance to Ancient Greek. Check out the preview to see what each task card entails. Students will need to walk around the room reading the task cards. Each task card has a code word on the bottom which is the answer to the question/fill in the blank. The answer will NOT be found on that same task card. For example, the answer to task card #1 is found by reading the passage on task card #8. Students MUST record which task card they found the answer on in their answer sheet under the “FOUND CARDS #” column. That column will be used at the end for the 4 digit lock code. They will follow the clues to find the correct 4 digit code. Once they have completed the scavenger hunt they will receive a half sheet of paper stating that they have received immortality and their seat in Mount Olympus.

Geography & Government Types: Hitler's Olympics of 1936 (Without PowerPoint)

Following World War I, Germany was in economic, political, and physical ruins. In 1933, Adolf Hitler became Chancellor and began his quiet quest against anyone who was not Arian. In 1931, Germany was given the option of hosting the 1936 Olympics. Hilter, under his Nazi German totalitarian dictatorship government system, wasn't sure it was a good idea until he was convinced that they could build the largest stadium to be seen at the Olympics and make Germany look as if it was not in ruin. He agreed! The 1936 Olympics were different from the Olympics in the past. It incorporated theatre, high-tech equipment for the games, and wonderful production with many rituals that would continue into the Olympic games after Hitler's Olympics.

Hitler kept the secret of his war against the Jews throughout the two weeks of the 1936 Olympics using propaganda to show the world how well Germany was doing; the world, however, had no idea what was in store for Germany and the Jews who lived within its borders.

OBJECTIVES:

Students will understand the concept of propaganda and how it was used during the Olympics in 1936 by the Nazi regime. (Bloom’s Taxonomy: Understand)

Students will examine the economic and cultural exchange along the trade route.
Students will examine the challenges faced and the causes of the decline of this prominent route.
Students will examine the major cities along the route.
Students will examine effect of the Mongol Empire on the Silk Road.

This Aztec, Inca & Maya Escape Room is the perfect blend of social studies content, close reading, and gamified learning! In this activity, students will explore all three of the civilizations through an engaging close reading article and four unique challenges.

Overview of the Activity: Students begin by reading a two-page informational passage that explains different aspects of each of the civilizations, (where they were located, when they flourished, achievements, etc.). The article includes essential vocabulary like terrace farming, irrigation, chinampas, aqueducts, astronomy and hieroglyphics, providing a solid foundation for students before they tackle the four interactive challenges.

Each challenge targets a different skill:

Challenge 1: Matching vocabulary terms to their definitions (reinforcing social studies concepts).
Challenge 2: True/false questions based on key facts from the reading (to build comprehension).
Challenge 3: Multiple-choice questions (testing understanding of key concepts about the various civilizations).
Challenge 4: Identifying the paragraph where certain information is found (developing close reading skills).

For each correct answer, students receive a clue—a one-digit number. After completing all four challenges, students use their numbers to solve a final puzzle and “escape” the room.
