In our global society, our students need to understand how **cultures are developed **and how they adapt to and adopt practices and beliefs from others through cultural diffusion. In this lesson, students will look at "the American culture" vs its subcultures.

This is a scavenger hunt using task cards that is based on New York State Geography which is aligned with the 4th grade curriculum but would be helpful for grades 3-5 learning about New York State. Students will read about the lakes, rivers, mountain ranges, cities within NYS, the state capital, bordering states, countries and oceans. Check out the preview to see what each task card entails. Students will need to walk around the room reading the task cards. Each task card has a code word on the bottom which is the answer to the question/fill in the blank. The answer will NOT be found on that same task card. For example, the answer to task card #1 is found by reading the passage on task card #8. Students MUST record which task card they found the answer on in their answer sheet under the “FOUND CARDS #” column. That column will be used at the end for the 4 digit lock code. They will follow the clues to find the correct 4 digit code.

This activity would be a great review before assessments, as a center activity, a group activity, etc. Students will be engaged with the learning while having a fun time trying to solve all of the clues!

This 5 themes of geography activity will make learning fun with this engaging, hands-on task card escape room. This activity includes 16 task cards that are broken down into 4 levels or puzzle types, giving students a chance to practice nonfiction reading comprehension skills while actively decoding puzzles.

Lead your students to discover information about the 5 themes of geography by exploring it on their own before teaching or have them use it to review information. Students will answer questions that can be found directly in their reading passage, so there is no prior knowledge needed.

The first slide is an overview. All worksheets are included as slides that can be printed. There are also instructions included in the notes section of each slide.

This lesson is easy enough for 5th graders to understand yet works well with students up to grade 12. Modifications can be made as needed.

Need a great activity for your South America study? These 24 task cards are a great way to both introduce the unit study or evaluate what students gained during the unit in a fun and interactive way. Not only is it fun, but it will get students moving around the room in an organized and timely manner, which will make the learning process fun and engaging.

Place these cards around the room and have students on a timed rotation. 24 pre-constructed task cards, a student answer sheet, and a teacher's key included. All you have to do, is print, cut, laminate if you wish, post in areas around the room, and let your students have fun learning. You may wish to provide atlases and resources at each station if your student's textbooks do not address these questions.

This is a great cooperative learning activity but can also be adapted to one student per card.

Overview of the Activity: Students begin by reading a two-page informational passage about New York state geography, borders, cities, important landmarks within the state, etc..
