Do your students need Paperless Morning Meeting Slides with a Video of The Day to work on their reading skills while creating connections and building relationships? Using a Video of The Day can lead to tremendous growth academically and socially. The videos can be utilized during your Morning Meeting time along with your other components. 

The Video of The Day is on PowerPoint and can be used every morning during your Morning Meeting routine. All you have to do is bring up the PowerPoint each morning and play the video on the slide. There are 60 EDITABLE and DIVERSE videos! This is part 1 of 3, and parts 2 and part 3 have numerous editable videos as well! If you would rather use a different video one day, you can delete the video and add your own! 

Students will infer, visualize, synthesize, and create connections with the videos.  Looking closely at a video is an important reading skill for students to develop to create inferences about what they are watching. Therefore, the inferences they are creating about the videos will lead to connections and inferences within their reading texts. Students who practice those skills outside of reading will most likely utilize those same skills while reading. You will need to teach students how to do that throughout the school year with the PowerPoint. 

Additionally, The Video of The Day can be used for writing prompts or centers. Students can view the video and write a story based on the video. The students may also write predictions on what they think would happen next if the video continued.  

This is also an excellent resource to use with your remote learners as well. You could assign one or more slides to their learning management system for morning meetings and writing or reading activities.

Mystery At The Theme Park is a video based Escape Room activity that is played with a YouTube Video (approximately 20 minutes) and answers are submitted on a Google Form. Students will have to watch the video, listen to the story, and look at pictures to find clues to escape from the Theme Park in time. There are many different ways that you could play this game whether it is as a full class and you try to beat the clock, or in small groups where students can work together to solve the puzzles! Creating a Student Success Guidebook (brochure project) gives students an opportunity to share their knowledge and tips for success in middle school with the following year’s new incoming class of students. This is perfect for a technology or leadership class, or for a club that focuses on assisting students, such as Student Council. Students work in small teams to research an assigned topic about expectations in middle school, specific to their school. Next, they create one page of a brochure with their information which will finally be combined with the other teams’ pages to create a full brochure that can be published and distributed to incoming students. The project was created for 8th graders but could easily be adapted to use with 5th or 6th graders leaving elementary school and providing tips for success to new elementary students, or could be used by sophomores (or above) in high school to create a success guide for incoming high school freshmen.

Here are FOUR simple activities you can do as a class to help review the books of the Bible:

Old Testament Game

The first is simply books of the Old Testament that students put in order as quickly as possible then say the names of the books together to review.

New Testament Game

The second is books of the New Testament that are placed in order on the frames to review.

I have also added six pages that can be used in digital resources by filling in the missing books of the Bible.

Fun Facts Activity

There is also an information page with six facts about the books of the Bible. I send this home as homework for students to learn the facts, decorate and bring back for a treat.

Individual New Testament Game

My favorite activity is a board game you can use as an individual activity or as partners. The board is printed in black and white on paper. Kids will roll a dice or spin a spinner to move their game piece. They color the piece where they land as well as say the books of the Bible as they go. The game continues until the board is completely colored.

After playing these games several times, students are much more familiar with the books of the Bible and some will be able to recite them by memory. I use these activities in Children's Church and the kids really enjoy it!

Student's need to know they are valued and appreciated. One way to let them know is it to present them with certificates, whether you present it publicly, privately, staple it to their assignment being returned to them or, if they have a student folder or journal with pockets, simply place inside for them to find! This resource includes 15 yoga poses. Each pose is on a full sheet of paper (color and black and white) with simple directions to read to the students or have them read themselves.
