Do your students need Paperless Morning Meeting Slides of Videos to work on their reading skills while creating connections and building relationships? Using a Video of The Day can lead to tremendous growth academically and socially. The videos can be utilized during your Morning Meeting time along with your other components. 

The Video of The Day is on PowerPoint and can be used every morning during your Morning Meeting routine. All you have to do is bring up the PowerPoint each morning and play the video on the slide. This is a bundle of all of the videos for your morning meeting time. There are 162 editable and diverse videos spread out on three different PowerPoints.

If you would instead use a different video one day, you can delete the video and add your own! 

Students will infer, visualize, synthesize, and create connections with the videos.  Looking closely at a video is an important reading skill for students to develop to create inferences about what they are watching. Therefore, the inferences they are creating about the videos will lead to connections and inferences within their reading texts. Students who practice those skills outside of reading will most likely utilize those same skills while reading. You will need to teach students how to do that throughout the school year with the PowerPoint. 

Additionally, the Video of The Day can be used for writing prompts or centers. Students can view the video and write a story based on the video. The students may also write predictions on what they think would happen next if the video continued.

There can be many challenges that students face when dealing with their sexual orientation. This packet of work presents students with a realistic story of a male teen struggling with accepting his own identity. Wary that he may be judged, shunned and not accepted, the LGBTQ+ teen describes the immense pressure he is under. Your students will discuss and unpack what is means for some teens to be gay in an environment that doesn’t support homosexuality and diversity.

Students who identify as being part of the LGBTQ+ community may find themselves hiding who they are from their peers and family. For some students, they may be wrestling with conflicting feelings of wanting to come out. However, some may choose not to out of fear - just like the narrator in the reading passage.

Through a variety of activities, students are guided to explore the concepts within the text. An anticipation guide helps learners to consider their current thoughts and beliefs surrounding the experiences of LGBTQ+ people. Mystery At The Theme Park is a video based Escape Room activity that is played with a YouTube Video (approximately 20 minutes) and answers are submitted on a Google Form. Students will have to watch the video, listen to the story, and look at pictures to find clues to escape from the Theme Park in time. There are many different ways that you could play this game whether it is as a full class and you try to beat the clock, or in small groups where students can work together to solve the puzzles! The Prep to play this Escape Room is minimal-all you need is the video link and a copy of the Google Form for each group. I played this game with my Grade 6/7 class online and they LOVED it. I had students who were usually pretty quiet online take over and shine!
