Do your students need Paperless Morning Meeting Slides with a Video of The Day to work on their reading skills while creating connections and building relationships? Using a Video of The Day can lead to tremendous growth academically and socially. The videos can be utilized during your Morning Meeting time along with your other components. 

The Video of The Day is on PowerPoint and can be used every morning during your Morning Meeting routine. All you have to do is bring up the PowerPoint each morning and play the video on the slide. There are 60 EDITABLE and DIVERSE videos! This is part 1 of 3, and parts 2 and part 3 have numerous editable videos as well! If you would rather use a different video one day, you can delete the video and add your own! 

Students will infer, visualize, synthesize, and create connections with the videos.  Looking closely at a video is an important reading skill for students to develop to create inferences about what they are watching. Therefore, the inferences they are creating about the videos will lead to connections and inferences within their reading texts. Students who practice those skills outside of reading will most likely utilize those same skills while reading. You will need to teach students how to do that throughout the school year with the PowerPoint. 

Additionally, The Video of The Day can be used for writing prompts or centers. Students can view the video and write a story based on the video. The students may also write predictions on what they think would happen next if the video continued.  

This is also an excellent resource to use with your remote learners as well. You could assign one or more slides to their learning management system for morning meetings and writing or reading activities.

Student's need to know they are valued and appreciated. It’s essential that young people develop empathy for those who are different to them. This resource examines the short story of a teenage boy who gradually reveals his LGBTQ+ identity to different groups of people at his school. At one point, and for a brief moment, he becomes a victim of bullying until a friend of his moves from being a “bystander” to an “upstander” and speaks up against this negative treatment. He challenges the boy's homophobic comments, offensive remarks, and attitudes (in a nonviolent way) making his LGBTQ friend feeling safe, valued, and reassured. This short passage leaves readers feeling inspired and better understanding the positive impact empathy can have on an LGBTQ+ individual.

Many LGBTQ+ students will find themselves struggling with the unknown. The way in which students respond to LGBTQ+ identities and relationships could provide key support and understanding for their peers. Within our classrooms, we may have teens who are discovering their own sexual identity. This resource, and story, highlights positive ways that students might respond to their LGBTQ+ peers.

Mystery At The Theme Park is a video based Escape Room activity that is played with a YouTube Video (approximately 20 minutes) and answers are submitted on a Google Form. Students will have to watch the video, listen to the story, and look at pictures to find clues to escape from the Theme Park in time. There are many different ways that you could play this game whether it is as a full class and you try to beat the clock, or in small groups where students can work together to solve the puzzles! The Prep to play this Escape Room is minimal-all you need is the video link and a copy of the Google Form for each group. I played this game with my Grade 6/7 class online and they LOVED it. I had students who were usually pretty quiet online take over and shine!
