Real-Life Math Linear Equations - 16 Skills Alg 2+PreCalc students should have!
By Daniel
All Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus and Calculus students should have mastered a set of essential skills in previous courses - but they often don't. This resource has been thoroughly classroom-tested and will help you review these essentials quickly and effectively. I teach Algebra 2 and Pre-Calculus and plan to give this task as a DIY task for extra credit before EVERY unit this year.
Linear Equations and their Graphical representations are an integral part of any Algebra course. This resource (task, with checklist and complete answer key) makes sure that students practice the 16 essential skills needed.
Students will practice the following skills:

Have them start off completing the word search with vocabulary associated with the u-substitution. Go through the guided notes with the u-substitution examples with them (or they can do it alone with the guidance of the notes). Then have them work with a partner to complete the partner problems. After that they will complete the independent practice to see what they understand on their own. You can assign them the HW for the night. The next day they can summarize what they learned, reflect on what was challenging and what was not and then rate themselves on a scale of 1-4 to self assess how well they understood u-substitution.
TOPICS:
- Evaluating Integrals using U-Substitution
ANSWER KEY INCLUDED.
WHAT YOU GET:
>> DO NOW: Students will complete a short word search to familiarize themselves with the vocabulary associated with u-substitution. They will fill in a chart reflecting on words they have heard of and have not.
>> GUIDED NOTES: You can go through the vocabulary, guided notes and guided example with your students. You will get a list of the Antiderivative Rules and an example of each as well.
>>PARTNER PROBLEMS: They will each complete 5 problems each and then check each others problems to reinforce the concepts of u-substitution.
>>INDEPENDENT PROBLEMS: Students will then work alone to see how well they understand u-substitution on their own without the help of their partner and complete 10 problems.
>>HW: Students will complete 4 practice problems to practice u-substitution.
>>SUMMARIZE, REFLECT, ASSESS: Students will summarize the lesson, reflect on the challenges they had and then self assess from 1-4 to determine how well they understood u-substitution.
