French Decodable texts BUNDLE that aligns with the Science of Reading are a NO PREP printable activity for the K-2 French classroom. Students practice endoding and decoding skills and build confidence in reading.

Make a few copies of each text and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. The familiar story of Red Riding Hood is a perfect way to practice and assess your students’ knowledge of the preterite and imperfect tenses in Spanish with easy differentiation. Students love these activities because they use stories that they are already familiar with, making them more comprehensible, turning this tricky grammar topic from dry and boring to engaging and fun!

This resource makes a great emergency sub plan (2 days’ worth of material), homework assignment, or formative assessment. These stories are great for Spanish 2 or as a review of the Preterite vs Imperfect tenses at the beginning of Spanish 3 or 4.

Prepping this resource couldn't be any easier - just print out the pages you want to use with your students and make enough copies! Don't have time to make copies or have a last-minute sub? Use the comprehensible and engaging story powerpoint with your students or assign the Google Slides™ version story and questions.

This resources includes two versions of the same story:

• Version A has the verbs already conjugated, and the students must choose between the preterite and imperfect tenses of the verb.
• Version A also includes true/false comprehension questions in the past tense and students must correct the false statements.
• Version B includes only the infinitive, so they must first decide which tense to use (preterite or imperfect) and then fill in the blank with the correct form of the verb.
• Version B also includes comprehension questions to be answered in complete sentences in Spanish in the past tense.

Each version of the story with questions is three pages long. The two different versions make differentiation simple!

There are many ways you can use this set of speaking cards:

➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions.

➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box.

➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out correct answers to false statements.

➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer.

➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards.

➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer true or false and to correct the false statements. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question. All cards are numbered so it is simple to stay organized. Full instructions are included.

➤ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move.

➤ Use the cards as an icebreaker activity at the beginning of the school year or right after school holidays.

Spanish students can practice conversing with these simulated conversations.  Answering questions can be difficult for students, but these 5 (MORE) interpersonal speaking tasks give students some general information about what they will hear and how they should answer.  An audio link accompanies each conversation, with a 20 second timed pause for students to answer.  There is also a rubric for easy feedback!

These simulated conversations mimic the AP Spanish Simulated Conversation task and are also great practice for Seal of Biliteracy tests (like AAPPL) where interpersonal speaking is one of the tasks. Start practicing early!

Diferenciación:

French Decodable activities that align with the Science of Reading in the K-2 French classroom. Students work on their phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, decoding and encoding skills and as they master the target sound.

Make a few copies of each card and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, encoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. Students use whiteboard markers to sound out each sound in the word, each syllable, or each word in the sentence. What a great way to build confidence! Sentences are designed to build a number of common French sounds and get more challenging as they go on.

Do your students struggle with the conjugating verbs in the present tense? Then this amazing fairy tale activity is just what you've been looking for! This awesome resource with the classic story of la Bella y la Bestia is an easy-to-use and low-prep way to practice the present tense, along with reading comprehension skills.

Students love these stories because they are stories that they are already familiar with, making them more comprehensible, turning this dry and boring grammar topic into something engaging and fun!

The familiar story of Beauty and the Beast is a perfect way to practice and assess your students’ knowledge of the present tense in Spanish with easy differentiation.

This file includes two versions of the same story:

• Version A has the verbs already conjugated, and the students must choose between two different forms of the verb.
• Version A also includes true/false comprehension questions and students must correct the false statements.
• Version B includes only the infinitive, so they must fill in the blank with the correct present tense form of the verb.
• Version B also includes comprehension questions to be answered in complete sentences in Spanish.

Both versions of the story are two pages long, with a separate page of comprehension questions. The two different versions make differentiation simple!

Also included in this download is:

• a mini pictorial vocabulary list in color and black and white
• an eight-slide mini-PowerPoint (great for pre-teaching key vocabulary)

This is a set of 140 French relative pronouns practice cards focusing on QUI - QUE - OÙ - DONT. These cards are so much more fun (and challenging) than classic worksheets. There's lots of repetition, and that's what our students need to practice and master these confusing relative pronouns. My students find it particularly fun to use these cards as a guessing game with a partner or small group, and even the mysterious DONT becomes a lot easier! Each card displays an image, and beneath the image it is written how to say it in French. For example, C'est un lave-vaisselle. Students are prompted to say at least two sentences using relative pronouns to describe the image, and their partner(s) have to guess what it is. At the top of the card it may say C'est quelque chose que..... or C'est quelque chose dont..... and at the bottom of the card it may say C'est quelque chose où..... or C'est quelque chose qui..... Students have to finish the sentences using correct grammar, and they need to give enough information for their partner to make an intelligent guess.

In the beginning, it can be very difficult for students to formulate their own sentences, and that's why there are two sets of 70 cards included with this resource.

SET ONE: The cards have two clues already written on them. This is a nice way for students to warm up to the activity, understand how it works, and get in some valuable practice and examples. In this version, students read the clues to their partner(s) and soak in the grammar while their peers practice their listening skills.

SET TWO: These are the same cards, but the clues are not written on them. Students will have already practiced with SET ONE, and should be able to come up with their own sentences (and if they remember the ones from SET ONE... all the better)! The only clues they are given is whether they should follow the prompt with a subject or verb since those rules can be tricky and hard to remember.

These practice cards provide a quick NO PREP activity that you can use for years to come. You have the option of printing and cutting out the cards (4 per page - laminate if possible) or having students use the PDF file on their devices (1 per page).
