File Folder Board Games Practice Turn taking, Rules, Politeness (Special Ed)

By Until the Pieces Fit

6 File Folder Games

File folder games allow students opportunities to learn to through play. Communication and appropriate interactions are important skills they will need throughout life.

This set provides 6 different activities, however they each follow the same general rules, expectations, and idea. I use this with my kiddos that need practice turn taking, losing (students may lose a desired game piece), cooperation, following directions, matching and so much more. The games are easy in nature, however highly addictive for the competitive kids. This allows for opportunities with students in differing abilities.

The themes for the games are:

Fill the Wagon

Make a cake

Buggy Day

Laundry

Moon Walk

Ice Cream

Rules (some differences in games - this example is the Fill the wagon rules).

Contents & Prep:

  • Print/Laminate 1 mat per person, use a expo marker to personalize wagons.  Each player will collect their items in their wagon.
  • Print and laminate 4 dogs, 4 flowers, 4 ice cream, 4 bubbles, 1 book, 1 leaf pile - place them in the middle of the game board.
  • Print the game board and glue/laminate to a file folder
  • Print and prepare dice (or use your own dice)

*For easy storage of game pieces attach an envelope to the back of the file folder prior to lamination.  Make a small slice in the lamination to release the top of the envelope.  Attach velcro to close.

Object:  Be the first to collect all the items except the leaf pile in your wagon.   If you have the books or the leaf pile and someone else lands on it you have to give it to the other player.

Choose your player:  Once you have chosen your player, place them on the board any spot will do!

Directions:

  1. Roll the dice and move your player.
  2. Collect the pieces as you go and place them in your wagon.   You may only get one of each item!
  3. The first person to collect 1 dog, 1 flower, 1 ice cream, 1 bubble and the books wins!

For 2-4 players

What Is Your Behavior Like Today?

By Creative Discoveries Online Academy Printables

Don't forget to check out the new resources I have below the description! Lots of fun Seasonal, Prek and Kindergarten Activities to print!

This is a behavior chart worksheet that can be filled out by the child with the teacher. It is supposed to help younger children think about their behavior and how they can improve it They should fill this out after they have been sitting in the thinking chair and had their consequence. Teacher prints off multiple worksheets and places on the left side of the child's folder. Staple one of the 0-4 strips to the folder with a paper clip for the child to move along as they get a consequence. This way it is private and other students can't see how many they have. When you fill out the consequence form, list the child's name, the date, and what consequence they are on. The child should circle how they feel and draw what they did wrong, and say an I will statement such as "I will sit quietly on the rug and listen to the teacher.". Then the teacher writes in what the consequence was and files the paper on the right side of the folder. Each month go through the child's folder and staple the forms to be saved and fill in the area that says if they have improved their behavior. This gives the teacher easy documentation. To show parents how many consequences the child had for the day, prepare a calendar with 1 circle in each day box and child will put the number of consequences they had for the day based on what their folder says.

Students: What I Think I Do - Week 1 Internet Activity

By Mark Holmes

I envisaged this to be a September week 1 internet activity. It will give students an opportunity to think about how other people perceive them. It could also be used as a lesson in how to search Google effectively or used as a dictionary / thesaurus activity, where students have to find descriptive words in order to search for appropriate pictures on Google Images.

These have been doing the rounds on FaceBook and email recently. You may have received posters / postcards entitled "Teachers...." or "Moms..." and then under the title are a series of photos with captions like;

What my friends think I do

What my mother thinks I do

What I think I do

What I really do

Each caption is accompanied by an image of what that person thinks about the other person or group of people.

The sample here is of the "Teacher..." postcard. This is NOT what I am selling. I am selling a similar template entitled, "Students..." It is laid out the same as the teacher one with the same titles (the word teacher has been replaced with student), however, the pictures are missing. Students must search Google Images for appropriate pictures that characterize themselves. The photo titles are as follows;

Students...

What my friends think I do

What my mother thinks I do

What society thinks I do

What my teachers think I do

What I think I do

What I really do

My students printed off the images and then cut them out and pasted them on.

Enjoy!!!!

The Top 50 Teacher Movies Of All Time

By Bright Classroom Ideas Marketplace

Every viewer of a teacher film can be greatly inspired. Who doesn't adore the tale of the educator who has such faith in their pupils that they change their lives? Every educator aspires to have some influence on our students' lives. Isn't this ultimately the reason we teach?

The creation of instructional videos has gained popularity, whether through the internet or motion pictures. More people are getting involved in teaching and creating engaging movies and videos, which are primarily shared on Facebook and YouTube. The sector is flourishing.

But because movies evoke strong feelings and convey stories about people who are similar to us, they have a considerably greater impact than blogs and instructional videos.
This is a thorough list of the best teacher films ever made, arranged by rating. Some of the teachers will inspire you, while others will struggle, and some will be absolutely remarkable. They are all deserving of your consideration. Rotten Tomatoes provided the audience ratings and comments, while IMDb provided the plot descriptions.

Anger Meter

By SEN Resource Source

Scale for children to visually express how angry they are feeling.

Why do you need this?

Acknowledging and talking about anger can be a helpful way for children to deal with this emotion. Talking about their feelings in a safe environment can help children feel better about their anger and can also help them to figure out how to deal with it in a healthy way. This can also be a good way to instigate discussions about healthy coping strategies for managing anger.

How and when might you use this?

This anger meter can either be displayed on the wall for children to go to when they feel they need to or to be directed to by an adult or it can be laminated for them to have their own individual copy with them at their desk to pick up and use whenever it is needed.

What’s included?

Included are 2 different versions of the meter, one with children’s emotion faces and one with emoji faces. Print and laminate and then use a split pin to make it work.

This can also be used as an additional activity, allowing your students to create their own visual rule that they think would be appropriate for the classroom.

Your Purchase of Classroom Rules for Elementary School also comes with 4 different activities that can be used individually, with small groups, or with the entire class for teaching any classroom expectation. Use these activities to start discussions of why we have that rule and what might happen if that rule wasn't in place.

Included Activities:

  • Thinking About Rules
  • Considering Specific Rules (editable to include your chosen rule)
  • Following the Rules: Letter Writing
  • Following the Rules: Writing a Paragraph (includes 2 different graphic organizers)

Building a respectful classroom community starts with having well-established and understood expectations for behavior. Especially when working with younger grades, it can really help to have a visual representation of your expectations rather than just words. Visual rules give you something to point to when reminding them, as well as being there to prompt them visually without you having to say anything.

You may also be interested in my book companion to That Rule Doesn't Apply to Me, written by Julia Cook.
