Daily routine language:

Students who are able to quickly master daily routine language feel confident to then try using less common words in class with teachers and peers. The secret to great communication is when students don’t even realize they are speaking to each other in French. This resource could set them on a path to natural, fluid speaking with confidence!

What grade level:

I personally use this visual schedule with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the images with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their understanding of their daily activities and what order their learning will take place in each day. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to communicate at the Junior level.

IEP students:

We all have students with IEPs who need that extra boost to build confidence and to lessen anxieties about what is happening in class. Students quickly learn to identify each card and help each other use this language throughout the day. On the following pages are flash cards for all of the sight words used in this worksheet.

For ease of use, they are presented in the order of introduction in the worksheet. Laminating the cards would also help make them durable. Punching a hole in each card and keeping them on a ring for each child is also a good way to keep the cards organized and easy to use.

There are many ways to use these cards. Listed below are some games and activities to help children learn to recognize the sight words:

• Sort the cards by sight words with the same beginning letter

• Find sight words that rhyme, and write other words that rhyme with the sight words on a dry erase board or separate sheet of paper.

• Sort the cards to make pairs of sight words that begin with the same letter. Play the “Memory” game using these words—players don’t get to keep the pair unless they can read both words. As an extension of this, also have players use the words in sentences.

• Use a timer to see how quickly each sight word is recognized. Begin with a small number of cards. Add more cards once increased speed and confidence is achieved.

• Put the sight words in alphabetical order.

• Come up with another word that begins with the same sound as each

sight word.

Love and Compassion Yoga Sequence for Tweens/Teens is a 47 page PDF download that you can view on your phone, tablet, computer or print to paper.

I use these to assist my lower level students and ELL students for exemplar models during assessments. I print them, cut them, place them back to back and laminate them, so they have reference to use on assessments and other activities.

Each label takes up 1/4 of a page so they are nice and big, but not too obtrusive. There are 55 words for a total of 14 pages. Check out the preview of the first 4 in the product photos. They each feature the English word in big, bold black letters while the Chinese Words are in a smaller font and in Violet. To help aid meaning, I've included pictures.

This a Power Point to practice the -ug word family. Students will see a picture to discuss, then the beginning sound will zoom in and then the end sound will zoom in to combine into a word (with sounds). One more click will give you a sentence using the specific -ug word. Words included are: bug, dug, hug, jug, lug, mug, pug, rug, tug, chug, drug, plug, shrug, slug, and snug. You can use many reading and ESL strategies with this PP. These can be printed in black and white as flashcards, but just so you know the beginning sound is separate from the ending sound.
