• Symbolic Settings Worksheet (or Quiz): The first worksheet challenges students to come up with adjectives to describe East Egg and West Egg based on how those symbolic settings are described in The Great Gatsby. This worksheet can be used either as a fun exercise or as a quiz. (1 pages)

• Decoding Socioeconomic Status Handout: Not only was Fitzgerald was a careful reader of sociologist Thorstein Veblen's Theory of the Leisure Class (1899), but he incorporated many of Veblen's insights into The Great Gatsby. For example, it was Veblen who coined the term "conspicuous consumption" to describe a type of consumer spending that was intended primarily to show off one's wealth — which is one reason why Gatsby's parties are so lavish! This handout features key quotations from Veblen and other sociologists that will help students arrive at a deeper understanding of the difference between "Old Money" and "New Money." (1 page).

• "Old Money" vs. "New Money" Worksheet (or Quiz): The second worksheet builds upon the handout above and enables teachers to assess whether students are able to decode status differences. The worksheet challenges students to determine whether 16 different adjectives — such as "refined," "ostentatious," "exuberant," and "aloof" — would most likely characterize "Old Money" or "New Money." • Analyzing Evidence Worksheet: This short worksheet challenges students to connect Nick's assessment that Jordan is a "rotten driver" with Nick's last words to Gatsby, "They're a rotten crowd." This product on solar eclipses covers the following: Students will learn what a solar eclipse is, the three main eclipses that will be covered include - total solar eclipse, partial solar eclipse, and annular eclipse and how they are different from one another, cosmic coincidences and how eclipses are unplanned, facts about the Sun and Moon and how the Sun is larger than the Moon and how it looks smaller when it is farther away, what happens to the sky during a solar eclipse, what should be worn during a solar eclipse - solar viewers, how it is never safe to look at the sun, how often solar eclipses happen, when the last total solar eclipse was in the United States, Europe, and Spain for comparison, a map that shows the last total solar eclipse that the United States experienced, and a map that shows where the total solar eclipse will cover on April 8th, 2024. A review that includes facts about the Sun, Moon, Earth, and planets is included in this product.

Throughout the product, students will answer comprehension questions, fill in the blank questions when provided with a key, multiple choice questions, and will label diagrams to ensure comprehension as they are learning about the types of eclipses and the planets.

At the end of this product, students will have the opportunity to draw a picture of a total solar eclipse and will label the sun, moon, and Earth.
