Through a series of seven engaging exercises, your students will develop a strong foundation in number relationships, addition, subtraction, counting, and more with coins. Exercises for Every Weekly Homework:

Exercise 1: Identifying Coin Names and Values

In this exercise, students will write the name (Penny, Nickel, Dime, or Quarter) and the value of each coin beneath them using the cent symbol (¢).

Exercise 2: Solving Addition with Coins

Students will solve the addition and represent the result by drawing coins of 1, 5, 10, or 25 cents, using as few coins as possible.

Exercise 3: Counting forward the value of the coins

They will count forward from a given number of cents. Students will have to count forward by ones, twos, fives, tens, or quarters, depending on the value of every coin.

Exercise 4: Counting backward the value of the coins

The same as the one above, but this time counting backward.

Exercise 5: Calculating Coin Values

Students will Calculate the value, in cents, for each set of coins and use the cent symbol.

Exercise 6: Drawing Equivalent Sets of Coins

They will draw 3 different sets of coins that are equivalent to a given number of cents.

Exercise 7: Fill in the Cross (+1¢, -1¢, +10¢, -10¢)

Students will work on nine cross-shaped grids, each with a provided number of cents in the center. Their task is to complete the four fields of the crosses using mathematical operations: add 1¢, subtract 1¢, add 10¢, and subtract 10¢ relative to the central numbers. This exercise enhances their understanding of number relationships and basic arithmetic.

This creative Bird’s Eye View Perspective Unit: 3D Forms OR City Scene was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I asked students to choose a Perspective artwork to complete: the 3D Forms artwork OR the City Scene artwork. Show Me the Money!

The Money Combinations Activity is a great addition for students to practice combining money. This product is a fantastic activity for Math Centers, Whole Class Activity, Partner Practice, or Individualized fun! Students will have different Sorting Mats to show one amount of money, using four different combinations of coins (teachers can set the goal for students to use the least amount of coins/dollar bills). Students will love to challenge themselves to find a common sum with different coin values combined. Laminate the four sorting mats, the amount of money tabs, and the coin templates. Keep all the products in a zip lock bags to re-use year after year.
