Less than $5 Kindergarten Reading Centers (by price, high to low)

Use in centers, small groups, or as an early finisher activity. My kids are always begging me to play this game!

This game includes all 107 Zeno Sight Words. I teach the 107 Sight Words because they are the most narrowed-down list of the most commonly used words in texts. It is important your child can read these words quickly and accurately for success in reading! 

I broke the words up into 8 sets so that each set would have 52 cards to keep the game engaging and not too long! This also allows you to easily differentiate the game by choosing the set that has more words that your child needs to work on! Each set is color-coded so if cards get mixed up you can easily find their place!

*Prep time is needed. I suggest you print these on card stock and laminate them for more durability. Printing on normal paper will work too! Print the set of cards and cut them out!

Using the books "'Slowly, Slowly, Slowly' said the Sloth" by Eric Carle and "Freeda the Cheetah" by JTK Belle, explore fast vs. slow tempo. Using the song "Slowly, Slowly, Slowly" have the students move like a sloth to the music. Explore various ways a sloth would move. Ask which animals move quickly and introduce "Freeda the Cheetah" and have them run and drop when the chant says to do so. Additional rhyming and tempo worksheets reinforce the tempo and rhyming words. Can be used and adapted for multiple grade levels.

I have always had a hard time finding products that contained muli-syllabic words with specific syllable types AND fluency sentences that accompanied words, as opposed to long passages. That is exactly what this resource is! This Science of Reading aligned resource is such a fun way to practice phonics skills such as fluency, decoding, and more. BANG! requires little to no prep and can be use in many different ways. I use this game in whole group, small group, and in one on one tutor sessions. All of the words in this resource are 2 syllable, closed syllable words. This product includes a few scaffolded options for word cards and sentence cards with the syllable division already completed. I am confident your students will BEG to play this game just as mine do!

Directions:

Cut out the cards for the version you plan to use, as well as the "BANG" cards. Place them face down in a stack or in a bag or container and have students take turns drawing a card. They should read the card and keep it. If a BANG is drawn, they have to return all their cards to the deck/pile. The student who has the most cards when time is up is the winner.

Using this "Got it!" system takes less than 30 seconds, is exciting for students, and can be done completely independently! Perfect for transitions, centers, or large and small group instruction.

French Sound Mats – Les voyelles

These activity mats were designed with the K-3 teacher in mind. As you introduce new sounds to your Kindergarten/Grade One students, you can use the image pages for students to show sound recognition and phonemic awareness before they are able to identify letters/graphemes. As students grow in confidence, you can add the element of identifying CV sounds or VC sounds containing the target sound. Each mat has 6 cards that will contain the target sound. Students choose the card they think is the correct one, and attach the card to the mat with Velcro dots. The third and final level is identifying the target sound inside a word. Students will need to decode sounds to correctly determine the 6 matching cards that go on the mat. This resource will grow with your students as their abilities grow.

How to prepare this resource:

Make a copy of each page and laminate the page

Cut out the activity mat (the part on the left side of the page) and the activity cards (12 cards per mat)

Insert all the materials into a plastic bag, zipper pouch, or activity basket and you have a brand new independent work station for your Science of Reading lesson!

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. This is a set of 2 booklets with worksheets for “Five Green and Speckled Frogs”. These are great for a lesson on "Five Green and Speckled Frogs", pond life, or anytime to suit your needs.

Included in this set....

• Booklets in Color and Black & White
• 7 Worksheets for Counting Activities to 5
• 2 Types of Counting Mats to 5

The first booklet is in color and could be used for a class set or in a math or reading center. The second booklet is in black & white and could be used for a coloring book, review, or many other things. Each booklet contains a cover and ending page for kids to put their names on. There is a total of 7 pages in each booklet. They contain a space at the top to staple and there is guides to mark for placement.

The worksheets included are....

• Cut & paste the number for the number of frogs on logs
• Count the number of frogs and write that number on the line
• Cut & paste the number of frogs for the given number word
• Cut & paste the number of frogs for the given number
• Color the number of frogs for the given number
• Write the number word for the number of frogs on logs
• Trace & write numbers 1-5
• Trace & write number words 1-5

Counting mats included are....

• Cut & paste the number of frogs for the number on the mat
• Cut & paste the number for the number of frogs in the pond

SUGGESTION: Print the mats 2 per page to make a booklet out of them.

UPDATED 04/09/2019: There has been 7 worksheets and 2 different kinds of mats added to this pack.

This Science of Reading aligned product features one of my students favorite activities to do during center time, Phonics Dominoes. This activity contains words with 2 syllables (closed only) and are low teacher prep! This product contains a set with syllable division already completed as a scaffold option.

Using this "Got it!" system takes less than 30 seconds, is exciting for students, and can be done completely independently! Build it in during transitions, centers time, large or small group instruction.

Student push the sounds button (I use these ones), hear the syllable sequence, repeat the syllable sequence while pointing to the card left to right (example: rocket rock-et (while clapping) two), and then give the hand a high five and say "Got it!"

It's as simple as 1-2-3!

Using this "Got it!" system takes less than 30 seconds, is exciting for students, and can be done completely independently! Build it in during transitions, centers time, large or small group instruction.

Student push the sounds button (I use these ones), hear the letter sequence, repeat the sound sequence while pointing to the card left to right (example: R
robot raindrop rocket), and then give the hand a high five and say "Got it!"

It's as simple as 1-2-3!
