What grade level:

I personally use this visual schedule with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the images with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their understanding of their daily activities and what order their learning will take place in each day. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to communicate at the Junior level.

IEP students:

We all have students with IEPs who need that extra boost to build confidence and to lessen anxieties about what is happening in class. Students quickly learn to identify each card and help me put up our schedule for the day. This has had a positive impact on all students in the class and supports the most vulnerable learners too!

Using this hands on, multisensory activity, students won’t even realize they are learning their letters! In this resource, they will learn letter formation by first building the letters, coloring the letters and pictures, tracing the letter, and writing the letter.

This is not only a fun and engaging way to learn letter formation, but students are working on foundational fine motor skills needed for writing. Students don’t have to use a pencil for writing, try broken crayons (broken crayons help promote tripod grasp pattern), q-tip painting, or fingerpaint. When writing letters for this activity, students use handwriting letter boxes to help with letter size, placement, and spacing. This Functional Literacy Skills - Days of the Week Task Box and Visual Schedule Bundle is the perfect way to help students learn the days of the week as they begin the new school year! This set allows students to learn the days of the week, as well as their order. Students can then generalize this learning by creating and following a weekly schedule.  Task Box activities and Visual Schedule can be laminated and placed in task boxes or file folders, allowing them to be prepped once and reused with all of your students! 

Visual schedules are a tool used for students with exceptionalities, but particularly for those with autism, to help transition between activities and places, follow a routine, know what to expect in their day, and develop new skills.  The schedule allows a sequence of pictures and words to be arranged in order so that students can set and follow a daily schedule, as well as mark off completed tasks.  The schedule can also be used to break large tasks or events down into smaller steps.  Having a visual schedule can be a help to reduce challenging behaviour.
