Celebrate Earth Day with a Heartfelt Craft!

This Earth Day craft is a fun and interactive way for kindergartener and first-grader students to show their love for our planet!

Materials:

• Construction paper (various colors)
• Scissors
• Glue
• Markers, crayons, or colored pencils

Instructions:

1. Print the worksheet: The worksheet features 10 heart-shaped prompts with Earth Day themes.
2. Cut out the hearts: Help younger students cut out the hearts or let older children practice their scissor skills independently.
3. Brainstorm and decorate: Guide students in brainstorming answers to the prompts on the hearts. These can be simple phrases or sentences like "I love the Earth because..." or "I can use less trash by..." Encourage creativity with colorful markers, crayons, or pencils.
4. Create a class display: Once decorated, glue the hearts onto a large piece of construction paper. This creates a beautiful and collaborative Earth Day message from the entire class!

1. Click print

2. Select the printer and number of copies, then search down midway and click the MULTIPLE bar

3. Select 2 so you get 2 pages per printed copy

4. You can choose to bring double sided or single sided but I prefer single sided for the little ones (you can always take out the page if they make a mistake…harder to do if they also filled out the entire other side…fewer tears for me, the better!)

5. Staple into booklets. I stapled along the binder spirals so they looked more authentic

1. You can print one image per page and make the books bigger

Who can use this resource:

I used this resource with my Grade 1 and 2 students at the end of the year to celebrate our accomplishments and to create a book of our favourite memories. Students loved brainstorming ideas for the various pages. It's amazing what they remember and appreciate from the past ten months of school.

Further, students can use the finger-spacing tool (in three different skin tones) to assist them in perfect word spacing. Students will learn about the needs of all living things when you show them and discuss our mini-poster. Then they will complete a living and nonliving sort. There are 12 beautiful photographs of animals, 12 of different types of plants, and 12 of non-living things. Each photograph has the name of the object printed underneath it. These can be laminated and cut out so that students can sort them under the labels living and non-living (also included). This can be done with the whole group, in small groups or at centers. If this is done at centers putting 6 pictures from each category out allows for the center to be done twice.

There are 2 follow-up worksheets at slightly different levels, so you can choose what is best for your individual students' needs.
