Place Value Number Matching with Base Ten Blocks Expanded Form

By Rebekah Poe Teaching

Students can use these cards to match two-, three-, and four-digit numbers with their base ten block representations, expanded form, and written form. Use the cards individually to create even more activities. For example, give students the three digit number card and have them build the number using actual base ten blocks. You can also give the students the clip art cards and have them write the three digit numbers or the numbers in expanded form. The possibilities are endless and easily differentiated for every learner.

Quickly and easily create curriculum-based measurements to closely monitor your special education students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives and print targeted word cards for the skills they are still learning!

Tracking the progress of your students has never been so easy!

✔️ High-Frequency Words!

✔️ Short Vowel Words!

✔️ Blends and Digraphs!

✔️ Multi-syllable Words!

✔️ Letter Sounds or Names!

✔️ Numerals

✔️ Math Facts

✔️ Words From Your Curriculum!

✔️ Words That Follow Your Scope and Sequence!

Are you tired of writing goals and then having to scramble to come up with a way to monitor them?

Would you like to be confident in knowing you will always have a way to collect the data you need for specific skills being taught?

Would you like to write goals that are more specific to the student's needs rather than using whatever assessment program is being used by the district?

I created this user-friendly editable progress monitoring document to meet the diverse needs of teachers who need to be able to assess different students on different skills based on the student's needs and/or goals!

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE GOOGLE SHEETS™ WORKBOOK:

A MASTER LIST sheet to enter the words you would like to assess.

  • Thirty assessor probes with checkboxes. Probes auto calculate raw score and percent as well as displaying the student goal so it is always at the forefront! Missed words copy to the error box on each probe!
  • Thirty matching student probes to print right from the workbook!
  • A data sheet displaying date, raw score, percent correct, and missed words!
  • Two graphs (raw score and percent correct) with baselines generated from the students initial score and goal!

HOW TO PREPARE THE ASSESSMENT:

  • Simply enter the items to be assessed on the MASTER LIST tab.
  • Fill 50 boxes for each word to appear on each probe. This is great for monitoring specific words.
  • Enter up to 500 words (100 in each column) to measure a skill. Words will be randomly selected to appear on the probes. Not every word will be on every probe.
  • Words will never appear more than once on a probe!
  • Lock the words using the LOCK button!
  • Print the probes right from the Google Sheets™ Workbook!

HOW TO ADMINISTER THE ASSESSMENT:

  • Enter the student name and goal on the data sheet.
  • Check each incorrect word as the student reads.
  • Enter the total number of words attempted.
  • Total words read and percent correct will be calculated and graphed!
  • Enter the student initial scores (raw and percent) and goal scores on the data sheet to create graphs with a baseline!
  • Missed words are copied to the error box, data sheet, and targeted word cards!

PRINT WORD CARDS:

  • After assessing, missed words will be copied to the word cards.
  • Click the arrow link to jump to the word cards for a specific probe.
  • Word cards can be printed with normal scale and normal margins.

This tool is intended for personal use. You may create as many copies of the workbook as you need to monitor the students in your class or on your caseload. This tool may not be used for commercial purposes.

⭐ Complete directions are included within the workbook as well as in the preview video.

First Grade Math Word Problem Progress Monitoring Assessment - IEP Goal Tracking

By Tech for Teaching

First Grade Word Problem Progress Monitoring Aligned to Common Core Standards

Tired of writing word problem goals only to find you don’t have an efficient way to monitor them? Do you want to progress monitor more than just math calculations? This First Grade Word Problem Curriculum-Based Measurement is perfect for tracking your first grade or intervention students' growth in applying addition and subtraction within twenty to real-world problems, aligned with Common Core Standards.

As a special education teacher, I wanted to write math reasoning goals measuring the student’s ability to apply logical and critical thinking to word problems and determine the correct strategy to use in reaching a solution. However, I found it difficult to find curriculum-based measurements to frequently monitor such a goal and was always unsure if the word problems I was assessing my students with were of equal difficulty and therefore demonstrating improvement in their math reasoning skills. In addition, it was very inefficient and time-consuming to locate enough word problems to effectively measure progress over the course of an entire IEP.

I created this first-grade word problem progress monitoring for students who can add and subtract within 20 but struggle to apply those skills in solving a variety of word problems.

How They Work:

  • Print the student probes directly from the workbook.
  • After students have completed the assessment, enter the student answers into the corresponding assessor probe.
  • Answers will automatically be corrected. Raw scores and percentages will be calculated and added to the data sheet.
  • A graph showing the student's progress along with a baseline is generated!

Word Problems are Aligned with First Grade Common Core State Standards:

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.A.1

Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.A.2

Solve word problems that call for the addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.

Resources from the Achieve the Core website, specifically the Situation Types for Operations in Word Problems, were used to determine which types of word problems to include in this assessment.

Each probe includes five problems with the following skills:

  • One Problem: Add to (Result Unknown) OR Put together (Total Unknown)
  • One Problem: Take apart (Addend Unknown)
  • One Problem: Add three whole numbers
  • One Problem: Compare (Difference Unknown) OR Compare (Bigger Unknown) OR Compare (Smaller Unknown)
  • One Problem: Add to (Change Unknown) OR Take from (Result Unknown) OR Take from (Change Unknown)

Specific examples can be seen within the preview of this product.

Problem types/situations are randomized so students are unable to predict what type of problem they will encounter first, second, etc.
