This Primary Source Worksheet features a journal excerpt from Madame Sarah Kemble Knight, who was traveling in the colonies in 1704 for business reasons. Three Questions follow the passage which direct students toward clearer understanding of the passage.

This syllabus is for a 9th-grade English course on World Literature. The syllabus features literary texts guaranteed to keep modern-day teenagers highly engaged. For the syllabus is focused on a topic which globally connected teenagers find intrinsically interesting: namely, coming-of-age literature from around the globe. Students will be identifying if the adjectives in the sentence are coordinate or cumulative. Then if they have identified the adjectives as coordinate, they will then add the commas to where they are needed.

Time allowance to complete:

5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.

40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

Time allowance to assess:

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.
