Elizabeth Cady Stanton - Women's Rights: One Page Primary Source Worksheet
By Christa Nonnemaker
Unlock the door to immersive historical exploration with this primary source curriculum resource, designed to captivate and inspire your students.
Many students have heard about the Declaration of Sentiments or might have even read portions of it. Now students can go behind the scenes with this primary source excerpt!
This primary source worksheet features a passage written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton in Eighty Years and More in which explains why she and Lucretia Mott decided the time had come to organize the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848 which ushered in the Women's Rights Movement in the United States. Students will enjoy learning about the motivations behind the creation of the convention. Two questions follow the Guided Reading.
On the second page, the passage is enhanced with Meanings and Definitions in order to facilitate and improve understanding. A Differentiated Learning Option is also available for students.
The third page includes Background Information and an Answer Key. This is excellent practice in Primary Source Analysis and in identifying author perspective.

My novel, Hearts at War, features a white girl and a Japanese-American boy who are childhood friends whose growing attraction to one another in high school will be severed by war, family and social pressures once they enter college. They come of age in California and coincidence will throw them together again in the Pacific theater of war as they both serve in the military. Will they be able face the challenges of war and find a way back to each other? Available on Amazon or Kindle/Kindle Unlimited. Young Adults/Adults/Interracial Romance. I appreciate any reviews! Time allowance to complete:
5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.
40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)
Time allowance to assess:
A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.
Please ensure when you download this resource into Google Drive that you are logged in to the gmail account where you wish to store the activity. In the past teachers have downloaded resources into their school account in error. Thanks :)

Instructions:
Description:
✬This assignment is meant to help students not only practice their Spelling words but also to help them acquire a larger vocabulary. There is space for fifteen Spelling words. However, the second page can always be printed again to add additional words as needed. Students should write their Spelling word, the definition, and use it in a sentence.
Tips and advice:
✬It is completely understandable that there might not always be time to incorporate an assignment like this into the students’ regime of homework. Because of that, I have also used this if my students failed their Spelling tests. In my classroom, if they received less than an 80% on a Spelling test, I printed this out on Monday and stapled their test to it. (Others will draw the line at different percentages. I had ESL students who needed the vocab practice.) It was due on Friday. They then had to do this activity with any of the words that they spelled wrong. I would grade this assignment based on correct spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and correct definitions. Once done, I averaged the grade from this assignment with their test score and entered the new, higher grade into my gradebook. For the ESL students in my class, this assignment was very helpful in broadening their vocabulary.
Your feedback is appreciated!
Please go to your My Purchases page (you may need to login). Beside each purchase you'll see a Provide Feedback button. Click it, and you will be taken to a page where you can give a quick rating and leave a comment for the product. Each time you give feedback, TeachShare gives you feedback credits that you use to lower the cost of your future purchases. I appreciate your feedback greatly!
