This webquest / Internet scavenger hunt is a perfect one day activity for middle schoolers to learn more about Labor Day as they use the Internet to research answers to these questions. It is appropriate for middle school science or technology classes.

The “Qualities of a Hero” project focuses on recognizing important values in everyday life and individuals. It also allows students to creatively utilize technology to express their ideas. Students start the project with a whole class discussion on heroism, which can include video presentations (see the teacher resources). They work with a team to identify and classify different individuals who might be considered heroes. An additional organizer is included to extend this activity to identifying hero qualities with their group, or the organizer can be used later in the individual lesson. Finally, students research a hero of choice and create an online poster which also includes the qualities they identified incorporated into a Wordle word-web collage.

This lesson was created to use for Patriot Day 9/11 to showcase how a disaster can bring out the best in people who react as heroes, but is a great lesson on values for anytime!

The project, Introduction to Me – Infographic in Canva has students combine text, images and data to communicate information about themselves as an introduction. This is a perfect activity at the beginning of the year. It utilizes the free Web 2.0 tool Canva (www.canva.com). No download is required to use the product, making it easy for teachers who are not able to download software on classroom computers to still give their students a choice in learning.

In this lesson, students are provided with a quick tutorial, as well as links to other resources to help them with their designs. The tutorial is intended to help students get started with the program and then use the resources within the program to refine their creations.

Setting SMART Goals is a lesson that helps students identify and plan goals for school or their personal life by utilizing the SMART method of goal planning (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely). This is a great lesson to start off a new semester or a new year.

In these lessons, students are provided with an introduction to the goals methodology and suggested resources for whole class activities are included to introduce the lessons. Next, students brainstorm with a small group and then work individually to craft their own individual goal. This project was created for middle school students but would easily be adaptable to any age group.

I use interactive notebooks in my classroom, this is a flipbook that can be glued or into a composition notebook. The flip book syllabus will also fit in a larger spiral notebook, as well. All of the slides are completely editable. All you need to do is add your own class information over the top of mine. I left my information in as a guide for you.

Students must get their parents to read and sign it . This is a powerpoint file, please make sure you either have access to Power Point or are able to edit or convert Power Point files before downloading.

Display your classroom rules with some quotes by a few famous authors such as William Shakespeare, Ernest Hemingway, and Stephen King! Makes a nice classroom display.

This template can be used to support emotional and behavioural check-in and support reflective practices with students. Help your students identify and label their emotional state, isolate why they feel that way and explore what they enjoyed about today. Students are also encouraged to rate their feelings out of 10 with a rating scale. This is a highly effective, colourful and engaging check-in resource.

These color by positive affirmations are a great creative way to support individuals to change negative self-talk into positive self talk. Individuals are encouraged to repeat each affirmation as they color the corresponding number.
