In this lesson, students learn fun facts about St. Patrick’s Day as they complete a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic. A complete answer key is provided for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students. Two versions of the WebQuest are included to let teachers print the questions or to provide them digitally as an interactive page in an editable Microsoft PowerPoint file.  Additionally, a word search puzzle (with answer key) is included to use for early finishers or as a part of the lesson.

This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary as well.

No prep, just print and you're ready to go! Included: French and English version French only version Have students work in small groups of 2-4 or project the game and do a whole class activity. This game includes 40 words. Many of the words will be new to your students as this game is meant not only to practice forming questions, but also to build vocabulary. I like to allow my students to look at the game chart while they play until they’re somewhat familiar with the words. One student in the small group or class chooses a word on the chart. Other students ask up to 20 questions trying to guess the secret word. La Saint Patrick - French Dots and Boxes Activity

An easy and fun no-prep game that will elicit a lot of exposure to 24 different St. Patrick's Day French themed words. This is a one-page dots & boxes game including directions. This game could be laminated and used repeatedly with dry-erase markers or played on an iPad with annotation/whiteboard tools.

Objective: Complete more boxes than your opponent. Each player draws lines using a different color. On your turn, make a horizontal or vertical line from one dot to another. Say the words on either side of the line you drew. If you complete a box on your turn, draw an X in the box using your color. Once all of the boxes have been completed, count to see who got the most.

This product is a digital puzzle that requires students to complete 25 comparing fractions equations with different denominators. The link to the digital puzzle is on a clickable PDF that you would download once purchased. Students will put the symbols, <,>, or = in the answer box. This activity is no prep and is self checking. If the student puts the correct answer in, the answer box will turn green and a piece of the digital puzzle will appear in the green box to the right. If the student puts in the wrong answer, the answer box will turn red and no puzzle piece will appear. Students will know that they have completed the activity correctly when all answer boxes are green and all 25 puzzle pieces are there, forming a picture of a leprechaun. Also included are work pages for students to use while they are completing the digital puzzle. Students can choose between work pages that have "the butterfly method" in all of the boxes or blank pages allowing students to use whatever method for comparison that they want.

This product would be great for fast finishers, independent practice, a time filler activity, day before break activity, center work, etc. Students will love this activity and the challenge of completing the puzzle!

This resource includes 10 St. Patrick's Day themed writing prompts that would be best suited toward upper elementary or earlier middle schoolers. Each writing prompt features an engaging writing prompt, St. Patrick's Day themed cute background and front/back page of lines to allow students that have more to say a significant amount of space to do so. These writing prompts would be great for morning work, centers, fast finishers, independent writing tasks, etc.

The writing prompt questions include:

• Do you think that four leaf clovers actually bring a person good luck? Why or why not?
• Leprechauns are known for being mischievous and playing tricks. If you were a leprechaun, what tricks would you play on people?
• Which holiday is better, St. Patrick’s Day or Easter? Why?
• Where do you think that leprechauns get all that gold from?
• Where is the best place for a leprechaun to hide a pold of gold? Why?
• If you were a leprechaun, where would you hide your pot of gold so that no one finds it?
• Who would be more fun to hang out with, leprechauns or Santa’s elves? Why?
• Design a trap to catch a leprechaun. Describe it in detail and draw a picture of it.
• Using the chart of abilities below, which three do you think are the most important for a leprechaun to be? Why?
• Using the name chart below, find your leprechaun name. Then, write a story about your life as a leprechaun.

This bulletin board features the phrase "One Lucky Class" with the word lucky outlined and featuring a shamrock background in each letter. This bulletin board has an optional writing portion in a cute circular pattern where students can write a brief paragraph on the prompt "I'm lucky because..." It includes all 26 letters, (A-Z), an exclamation mark, period and apostrophe so that you can make whatever saying/phrase that you want. These letters would be great for a St. Patrick's Day bulletin board!

A St. Patrick's Day Escape Room activity. Ideal for fifth grade or sixth grade, the activity is perfect for group work; a great holiday activity; team-building activities; or for a fun, engaging and interactive lesson. The activity can be used in English class as it incorporates some ELA skills or in Social Studies.

The activity has been split into four different tasks; your students will need to complete each of the tasks to reveal a word. Together the four words make a phrase for them to escape the room.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Saint Patrick's Day and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards about important holidays or festivals celebrated in the United States and around the world. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

Time allowance to complete:

5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.

40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

Time allowance to assess:

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

Writing and Reading for St. Patrick's Day:

Students will enjoy using either Lucky Charms marshmallows or cards to complete Mad Libs. Students will add nouns (the item) or adjectives (the color) to a provided Mad Libs. When they complete this their teacher can have them write their own Mad Libs which they will have a friend complete.

Student will love making nonsense stories for St. Patrick's Day. They will be creative as they think outside the box.
