You came to the right place! I have been teaching for 5+ years, I have my Master's in Education with a focus on Literacy and I didn't know where to start.
So, I went back to everything I learned in my graduate program and re-read everything I could find.
I wrote & designed a student-engaging template to help students in my classroom to deeply internalize a word. I gathered key word lists when I didn't have a word from our daily reading, and thought about how to teach vocabulary so my love of etymology and words could be shared with my 10th graders. I've included all that and a guide to help other teachers get started with implementing and teaching vocabulary in THEIR classrooms.

Amelia Earhart Biography Writing Unit | 5th Grade & 6th Grade

A biography writing unit about the life of famous female aviator and the first woman to fly across the Atlantic solo, Amelia Earhart. The NO PREP unit has been split into four separate lessons and is perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade. Students will learn about the famous figure whilst working on their comprehension skills and developing their creative writing.

The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.

ESL Prepositions Sentence Review for Newcomers

In this product, students will learn the English vocabulary word for the 28 different prepositions vocabulary words presented.
Students will initially write each preposition in their native language after learning the English word and being shown a picture.
In the second section of the product, students will write each preposition in their native language.
In the third section of the product, students will write each preposition in English and in their native language. At the end of this section, students will have the opportunity to choose 8 prepositions vocabulary words and make up a sentence using each one. Students will also be provided with comprehension sentences that include prepositions.
In the fourth section of the product, students will be required to make up a sentence for each preposition that was learned in their native language.
In the fifth section of this product, students will then be required to make up a sentence using each preposition that was learned in English.

In this product, students will learn the sign and English vocabulary word for the 28 different prepositions vocabulary words presented.
This product can be used with students who are learning English and/or sign language. It can serve as an in class practice, review, or quiz.
In the first section of the product, students will learn the English word, the sign of each preposition vocabulary item, and the preposition vocabulary word is used in a sentence. Students will be able to write the name of the item in their native language. A picture is also included to represent each preposition vocabulary word. At the end of this section, students will have the opportunity to choose 8 preposition vocabulary words and make up a sentence using each one after answering 8 comprehension questions that relate with prepositions.
In the second section of the product, there is a dictionary provided that includes the English word, the sign, and a picture showing each preposition vocabulary word presented.
In the third section of the product, students can review what they learned based on the sign, sentence, and picture that are included for each preposition provided. Students will then be required to write the vocabulary word in English.
In the fourth section of the product, students can review what they learned based on the sign and picture that are included for each word provided. Students will then be required to write the English preposition on each line and make up a sentence using the preposition vocabulary word presented.

Simone Biles Biography Writing Unit | 5th Grade & 6th Grade

A biography writing project about the famous American Olympic gymnast, Simone Biles. The NO PREP unit has been split into four separate lessons and is perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade. Students will learn about the famous figure whilst working on their comprehension skills and developing their creative writing.

The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.
