In this project, students will create a trifold flyer of The Quadratic Formula. The flyer will include:

*Deriving the formula

*Solving an example using the Quadratic Formula

*Coming up with examples.

Students can create this flyer as to teach someone else the lesson on deriving the Quadratic Formula. This project will help students understand the formula and how it was derived. It will also allow students to think and come up with their own examples with answers.

This classroom tried and tested data and statistics activity helps students to see the benefit of gathering their own quantitative and qualitative data to make real-life choices. We have all wondered - which water container should I buy? Are the expensive water containers really that much better? Students compare 4 water containers quantitatively for how effectively they keep water warm and cold. It is always a good strategy to review essential skills with your students, and this is right up there with the most essential!

Do tall students jump high and far? Do the same students jump high and far? Students collect their own quantitative data to answer these and other questions. The data collection does not take long. Afterwards, students calculate the measures of central tendency - mean, median, mode, Q1, Q3, min, max, range and upper and lower outliers (extremes). The handout (with complete answer key for the teacher) contains the formulas students need in order to do all calculations.

This project has been tried, tested and refined in my own middle and high school classes for many years.

Cartoon Last Character Standing

Students will be given a list of Cartoon Characters to see how their characters are eliminated over a 10 day period during the Last Character Standing Games. They will be given a pair of dice that will be used to determine if the character moves on to the next day or if they are eliminated. On the back is a series of questions to ensure that students are learning about experimental probability. Very fun and there will be a lot of laughs.

Scrappy Patchwork Quilts

A scrappy quilt uses a variety of different fabrics that may or may not use a consistent theme. In this new version of cut and paste, students will make a scrappy quilt using a variety of pattern blocks included in the activity. The students must complete a set of questions or activities to know what numbered pattern to use and where it should be placed on their quilt. Each quilt has its own color scheme (color chart) and those are the colors students will need to create a one-of-a-kind scrappy quilt. Each quilt comes with a header, and some have additional activities students must complete to finish their quilts. Each quilt once assembled with header is 11x14 inches (does not include the size if a quilt has an additional activity).

In this Integer Operation Fall themed craft, students are going to practice all 4 integer operations. They will get 3 trees and 9 - 10 leaves with integer problems on them. They will get an addition tree, subtraction tree and multiplication/division tree. This would make such a cute bulletin board! You will need coloring utensils & scissors - minimal supplies!

Directions:

1. Solve the problems on the leaves

2. Write the answers on the line

3. Color the leaves and cut them out

4. Find the answer on the tree and paste the leaf on the tree

This Unit Rate and Ratios project and practice worksheets are the perfect way to review and complete a real world ice cream shop project using ratios and unit rates. Students will get 4 worksheets with a guided example and turn and talk up on top that cover ratio language, solving real world ratio problems and real world unit rate problems. They will also complete a 3 page project all about owning their own ice cream shop where they will use ratios and unit rate to calculate how much of each ingredient they need, how much each scoop costs and how much they should sell it for.
