The unusual and creative designs of Novelty Architecture are immediately interesting to middle school students. This lesson is perfect for an introduction to engineering, design, CAD, careers, advertising/marketing or history.

After a class discussion about the examples in the PowerPoint (and/or the additional examples in the resources section), students design their own functional building that meets the criteria for novelty architecture. They explore some of the potential problems in designing a building of this type and have the opportunity to utilize their creative skills as they find a unique way to create a building that looks like the company’s product or service.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

In this lesson, students learn more about what cyberbullying is and how to deal with it. The objective of this lesson is to help students understand kindness and discretion when using social media sites, texting, and interacting with others through other technology. Included with the lesson is a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation for whole class instruction (editable) to start discussion. Next, students choose a topic about cyberbullying and brainstorm ways to deal with that issue as they create a poster using Poster My Wall (www.postermywall.com), a free Web 2.0 tool that does not require download. A Quick Start Guide for the program is included to help students navigate the program. These posters make a great addition to a school website, or can be printed and displayed in the hallways.

This is a great activity for the beginning of the school year to set the tone for expectations in online activity and communications. This lesson is suitable for technology classes, for counselors, or in any class that will use the Internet.

This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary grades or high school as well.

This creative Dragons & Castles Scene was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I asked students to brainstorm a dragons & castle drawing inside their sketchbook. Foreground, middle ground, and background were emphasized throughout the 4–5-day unit. I asked students to lightly redraw the composition onto watercolor paper. I asked students to paint the larger areas first and paint the dragon and details last. I hope you and your kiddos love this! This creative Stained-Glass Tree Painting Unit was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I asked students to practice drawing different trees. Next, I taught students how to draw a tree that has branches extending to the edge of the paper. I demonstrated how to outline and fill in the tree. Students created their own stained-glass tree artwork on Final Copy Paper. Students outlined and colored their artwork. Students used mostly watercolor paints for their artwork. For this assignment, I asked students to brainstorm a boat/vessel that they wanted to have in the water, and water kind of body of water they wanted in their artwork. We discussed Winslow Homer, and his style of art. Students sketched their drawing and painted the larger areas first. Students painted the boat, smaller details and reflections last.
