This four-page Reading Assignment and Worksheet with Answer Key provides an overview of the various activities, attributes and activities of women in Native American tribal groups. It covers the time period from the pre-Columbian era through 1810 and highlights three different tribal groups. By the 1820s, the Native American tribes came under increasing pressure from American settlers and their lives began to change with westward expansion. These impacts will be addressed in separate resources about women and westward expansion.

Students can read this as an in-class assignment, a homework assignment or it can also be a group activity in a classroom. Here’s a chance for students to read documents and look at images that shed light on issues facing women during the Great Depression. These include newspaper pictures and articles about the difficulty of finding work, women's clubs, clothing advertisements, "wandering women", articles about women's need to be in the home, women's lack of equality in society as well as women's right and ability to hold jobs, photos of rural women, African-American women's activities and leisure activities, as well as excerpts from the Social Security Act and an ex-slave narrative. Many of the political events of the time still minimized, or even excluded, women's input although sometimes women provided reflections, opinions and even participation when possible. There are, of course, so many more documents and issues of the 1920s such as the Red Scare and the Scopes trial but these documents cover a broad range of what women experienced. The first lesson is interactive and involves students reading facts, and then sorting and ordering these facts into paragraphs by copying and pasting. In the second lesson the children need sort the facts in order before typing four draft paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson they need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions before typing up their conclusion. In the final lesson your class will need to check their draft paragraphs before typing up their work on to the template provided.

Celebrate Women History Month using this set of 7 of the most influential or Famous Women in Sports Reading Comprehension Passages. The passages are designed for students in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Each passage features a short biography of a famous female athlete, followed by 8 multiple-choice questions that test the student’s understanding of the text.

This Figurative Language Short Passage Set about Rosa Parks is a no-prep, printable close reading activity that's perfect for middle school and high school. Use it during Women's History Month or any time of the year! Featuring Rosa Parks, this is a 216-word passage filled with 15 examples of figurative language, such as hyperbole, metaphor, simile, and personification. I’ve found that although my students can tell me the definition of these terms, simile is the only one they can truly pick out in a text. As a result, their writing is filled with overused similes that need work! This figurative language passage set is rigorous, uses higher-level words and phrases, and in addition to merely identifying the different types, students will be asked to discuss the impact it has on the reader, as they’re asked to do on standardized testing. Activity:
Students can complete all three worksheets as part of a packet, but I suggest using one each day. If you teach allusion, alliteration, idiom, or onomatopoeia, you can ask students to include those in Task 2 where they will be asked to continue the passage using a similar writing style. I have left some blanks on the checklist for this very purpose.

Reflection:
The class can review the answers and comments as a whole group when the activity is complete. You’ll be surprised how much better they’ll get at figurative language after being exposed to some high-quality examples!
