Literary Genre - Horror - Text Based Evidence, Text Analysis Essay Writing Unit

Teaching how to write a literary analysis essay citing text evidence for identification of the horror genre has never been easier! This in-depth text dependent analysis (TDA) writing prompt resource guides students through a step-by-step process of writing an expository essay with textual evidence as support. It includes an expository writing graphic organizer, rubric, expository writing quiz, and an expository writing template.
All aspects of text evidence writing are covered in this resource: brainstorming ideas, developing a thesis statement, introducing supporting evidence, writing hooks and leads, and incorporating the 6 Traits of Writing™.
The video, slide show, graphic organizer, worksheets, writing template, and rubric allow students to practice and develop their expository writing skills. Graphic organizers can be helpful as a visual aid when students are writing.
Helps students focus on their thoughts for planning, decision-making, and writing an essay
Helps students see the connections, patterns, and relationships between facts, concepts, and ideas

Lamb to the Slaughter & The Black Cat Compare Contrast Essay

This product features all the materials you need to assign a compare/contrast essay for Roald Dahl's Lamb to the Slaughter and Edgar Allan Poe's The Black Cat.
For this assignment, students will need to think critically and specifically about the similarities and differences between the two famous stories of marital strife taken to the extreme. A comprehensive chart is provided to prompt students to take a close look at both tales and to think beyond the obvious (like the fact that they are written by different authors) and consider the deeper similarities and differences (plot structure, mental state of the narrators, and elements of suspense, etc.) between them. These thoughtfully-constructed materials will help students develop exemplary compare/contrast essays that they can be proud of!
