Recycling Sorting Activity - Hands-on Earth Day Recycling Sort Activity

Have fun this Earth Day with this fun and hands-on Sorting Recycling Activity. This Earth day activity is perfect to teach your learners about recycling and its importance. Learners will sort the items into the different bins and learn about the different materials that can be recycled.
This printable contains:
---> 7 different recycling bins (small and large versions)
---> Items of different materials to be sorted into the different bins
---> Sorting Recycling Info Sheet
---> Includes color and BW versions
Instructions:
•Print out pages and laminate if desired.
•Cut apart the bins, and the items for recycling.
•Discuss with your learners about what items can be recycled and how they must be separated into different bins for recycling.
•Ask your learner to pick up a card, name it and if possible to mention what material the item is made of.
•Then ask them, under which bin they think the item should be placed.
•Continue this until all the items have been sorted.
•If your learner can read, you can give the sheet with the sorting information and ask them to see whether the items have been sorted correctly.
•To make this activity self-checking, put a small coloured dot behind, matching the bin colour.

One set of cards have the number and the tens frames are blank so students must correctly count to the number by placing manipulatives in the tens frames. The other set has the tens frames already marked with recycle signs so students who need a little extra guidance can simply over lay their counters to complete the card.

Earth Day Letter Sound Fluency Strips
Use this low prep Earth Day activity to practice letter sound fluency in preschool, kindergarten or first grade. The cute thematic design will keep students engaged and interested while having fun and developing critical early literacy skills. Simply print, cut and laminate the 8 individual strips of letters and they are ready for use. Students point to each letter as they say the sound. A single strip can be repeated several times to build fluency. These can also be used to identify lower case letter names.
Suggested Uses:
♥ Pass out strips to students as a quick warm up before small group literacy instruction.
♥ Use the strips as a reading center activity. Students can work in pairs to check each other and trade strips for a second round. The seasonal strips are great to use on Earth Day and throughout the month of April.
♥ Use the strips one on one with students needing extra ELA support or intervention. Have them practice a single strip several times to build accuracy, speed and confidence.
♥ Use a metal ring to hold the set together and have them available in the classroom for fast finishers or extra practice throughout the day.
