Pre-K Phonics Activities (by date, oldest first)

Students will have so much fun "sliding" letters and sounds together to make CVC words!

Students can...

Work on beginning, middle, and/or ending sounds based on CVC word pictures.

Match CVC word pictures to a teacher-given word (word list/answer key provided). Write the letters that spell the word represented by the CVC word picture card.

Read CVC words and drag and drop them to the corresponding picture (digital bonus activity!).

Images are available in color and in black and white. Ideas for differentiating instruction are included.

Use these practice pages to reinforce letter skills such as identifying beginning sounds, letter formation, and letter identification. Laminate or place in page protector for repeated use.

Print and laminate alphabet arc, picture cards, and arrow. Punch a hole where indicated on the alphabet arc and attach the arrow to the arc with a brad. 

Students will draw a picture card, place it in the box under the arc, and match the picture to its beginning sound (with the exception of boX for X) by rotating the spinning arrow to point to the correct letter. Alternately, students could turn over a card and place it in front of them, rotate the arrow to the correct letter, and then write the letter with a dry erase marker in the box below the arc for additional writing practice. Pictures coordinate with the key words from the Phonics First program, but this product is in no way related to Orton-Gillingham or its affiliates.

First sound fluency is the ability to identify the first sound in a word. To learn to read children need to be able to break words into their sounds! This is a great way to think about sounds in words and the letters that represent those sounds! No prep, print, and cut and paste!

Handwriting improves a student's ability to recall information, make connections between different concepts, and synthesize information in new ways!

My handwriting book includes:

• Mnemonic keywords and pictures (this will help with memory of letter name and sound as they practice the writing of the letter)
• Letter formation sayings and pictures for where to start and end your letters
• Sentence Practice
• Binding edge so that you can place it in folders with sheet protectors to use with dry erase markers, staple or coil bind together to use fun pens, glitter crayons, colored pencils, markers, etc!

When a student can produce the letters correctly and quickly, they will use less brain power when writing words and sentences!

Practice letter naming, letter formation, and first sound fluency that goes with each letter with this easy, quick, and no-prep sheet! It is important that the letters in our alphabet become automatic to gain reading abilities!

These cards are FUN and ENGAGING way to work on matching upper and lowercase letters! You can also use the pictures to talk about the sounds of the letters as well! Very simple prep, print, cut, and match!

NO PREP! Understanding how to break words into syllables is a very important skill! When children begin to read and write multisyllabic words they need to be able to break words into syllables. This should be a completely auditory skill at this point, I put the words on the page so that you knew what the picture is! Use a manipulatives such as playdough, counting chips, a car, etc. to mark each box with the syllables in the word!

Let's be honest, phonemic awareness can be SO boring for our students! Whenever we are working on it they want to use the words in sentences or want to see a picture of what that word means! Now they have a picture to connect to the word!

These cards are so much fun my students beg me to work with them! I let them choose their manipulative; whether it is play-dough to tap, legos, chips, or blocks! This also gives those kiddos struggling with blending and segmenting a concrete method to gain those skills!

The cards are broken into each vowel sound so that you can easily practice phonemic awareness with the vowel you are working on. You can also mix them up so they can practice the skill for each vowel!

This resource can be used as many times as you want, is engaging with a cut and paste, and has zero prep! Understanding chunks in words will help children when they are starting to learn to read! When we become more proficient readers we chunk words instead of breaking them into individual sounds! This resource is meant to be completely auditory so your child does not need to read the words! I have added the words so that you are aware of what the picture is and what the matching rhyming word would be!
