Less than $5 Pre-K Other (Music) Resources (by date, oldest first)

Your Kindergarteners and 1st Graders may understand high and low (although they may think it's loud and soft, but this is why we teach them), but can they identify it which way it travels through non-traditional notation?

In "Up, Down, All Around!", your students get a brief introduction of melody, the most important aspect of a song or piece and will venture into the lesson where they will learn to identify melodic direction.

They will be given a multiple choice selection of 3 answers and then asked to identify which answer is UP, DOWN, or is a melody that STAYS THE SAME. Advance the slide and the correct answer will illuminate green!

You can play this one of several ways
_

• Individually by calling students to the board and pointing to the correct answer
• As a class by having them write down the answer on a white board, holding up an answer paddle, etc
• Race each other to the board to press the answer first and assign points (Team A vs Team B)
• Tell the students they have to beat a certain score of right answers (Oh, Mrs. so-and-so's class got 8 of them right, can you beat it?), and then play with one of the methods above!

Play some classical music in the background, and you have a win-win!

Steady Beat is one of the cornerstones of early childhood music whether you are playing with your Pre-K, Kindergarten, or even First Graders. Have them rise up to the challenge of “Steady as you go!” an amalgamation of classical music designed to have students become steady beat MASTERS!

You will assign students to play either body percussion to show steady beat (head, shoulder, lap, feet, etc) or even a drum, auxiliary percussion instrument, or anything else you can find.

You will then play the audio example of various pieces of classical music by clicking on the “heart” and watch the kids try to find the steady beat – only to be interrupted as the music abruptly changes every 20 to 30 seconds!

Students will have to start over and find the steady beat again as they transition into the next piece.

Have a terrific time finding that beat!

Working with your kinders and first graders on high and low pitches? Got a little bit of space in your classroom? WIth Hi-Low Rally Race, you can put two hula hoops (or taped off areas) in your classroom and designate one a "high" area and a "low" era.

You will play a short example of a melody (8 examples included) that's pitched high or low and students will walk "briskly" :) to the corresponding area which they think the pitch is -- high or low

You then advance the slide and show the correct answer!

Also works well for Distance Learning if your district has applied that. Just upload it to your Google Classroom and have the kids self pace it at home

Have fun with this!

A terrific way to work on soft and loud is with a quick review with our dynamic duo in music, Piano and Forte.

Students will review dynamics in music and watch a short video from Music K8 called "Forte Piano" with the Barnyard Orchestra!

They will then listen to 10 different examples of music (clips that range from 15-30 seconds long) and choose whether they think the music played best fits the term "Piano" or "Forte" by clicking on the screen.

The right answer will illuminate green the next slide.

Great practice for your young ones to begin the year (if you're distance learning) or good general review

Use these music certificates to award your students for doing a terrific job in music! These pre-made certificates are FULL Color and contain text appropriate for their specific certificate. Get your class on beat! Included are 6 background tracks with ethnic flair -- tablas, djembes, bongos, and more ethnic percussion from Asia, India, and South America. The 6 tracks are at approximately 120bpm and also have a faster 142bpm just in case you want to get things really moving! (12 tracks total) I use these in my class for Orff, Boomwhacker, Rhythm Sticks, Dancing, Movement, or singing activities. The tracks go for about 2 minutes each and there's about 18 minutes worth of drum music in the ZIP file Have fun!

Use this songtale to sing through what your students have just read about, after you have read the book to them! Using the same melody (with minor modifications due to changing lyrics) that I composed for Little Blue Truck, take your students on a different journey of getting ready for the Halloween party while guessing who each animal is underneath their costume. Great way to review musical form as well, since the song is in ABA form. For grades PreK-2. Ukulele chords included to help you accompany.

Use this wonderful book from Jason Lefebvre to teach and reinforce half notes! Chant this by giving the words "glue", "you" and "do" an extra beat and then ask your students to determine how many beats these words get. Have them move like they're stuck in glue while chanting to internalize the beat. Then use the beat chart and worksheet provided to learn and decode the half note beat. Add rhythm sticks to play the beats as a way to add in instruments. Adaptable for grades PreK-2nd grade.

Teach your students to identify and listen for the quarter rest with the chant written specifically for this book! Chant at specific points in the book when the bear keeps snoring despite all the activity around the animal. Decode the chant afterwards and ask your students what the "shh" represents. Use the decoding worksheet with the older grades (1st-2nd) to reinforce quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rest. Use a bear puppet that children can chant to for more engagement.
