How it Works:

1. Students may start at ANY card with their pencil and paper on a clipboard. If this is too much to carry: Adjust the activity, by “hiding” the cards around the classroom writing surfaces such as tables and desks and have a pencil at each station.
2. Write the number of the starting card in the top left square.
3. Look at the picture, say what it is and think about what letters/word matches.
4. Walk around the room searching for the letter/word match of the picture located in the oval in the top right of another card.
5. When found, write the answer on the line in the first box.
6. Following the arrow on their paper to box 2, write the number of this card in the box on the top left.
7. Repeat until all boxes are full. Students should return to starting card when completed.

The centers are best used by printing on cardstock and laminating to allow for repeat use and durability. You can choose to implement these centers during independent centers or with teacher guidance in small groups.

This activity bundle aligns with CKLA Domain Knowledge 4, some of the activities have skills 1 and 2 integration. This has been a wonderful resource to make domain 4 more engaging and developmentally appropriate. This product includes 9 activities, student directions, and teacher directions. Look at the previews for the examples of each activity. Some activities are knowledge focused, some incorporate skills; the skills this activity set includes are:

Practice reading and writing long vowel word family words with these phonics dice games for CVCe words. Students will gain practice reading, spelling and writing words with long vowel sounds with the magic e phonics rule. Students will roll the dice then color, trace or write the target word.

What is Included for Each Set:

• 2 sets of dice templates for the different mats
• 7 different recording mats

By having a variety of mats, these games are easily differentiated so that students who need more support can be successful as well. These games make great literacy centers or phonics stations.

Ways to Use:

• Use the tracing pages to trace the word rolled (single player)
• Use the grid pages to color the word rolled (single player)
• Create a graph by rolling the dice X number of times and then filling in the blank grid squares. (single player)
• Three in a Row: Using the grid paper with words, students take turns rolling the dice and coloring the words in the grid. The first player with 3 words in a row wins. (partner game)

These games can be placed in literacy centers, can be used in small groups, or can be used as partner games for students to work together to fill each mat.
