This unit connects learning with technology to English Language Arts/Reading. This lesson teaches students about idioms and guides them through using shapes and other graphic features in Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides to create an idiom. The lesson includes links to sites with information about kid-friendly idioms as well as other related resources. Also included are a PowerPoint presentation to introduce the lesson, a step-by-step tutorial of the features of Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Slides needed to create the project, and a sample project.

This lesson is great for English/Language Arts classes, art classes or technology classes. It was created for middle school (grades 6-8), but could be used successfully in upper elementary classes as well.

This webquest / Internet scavenger hunt is a perfect one day activity for middle schoolers to learn more about Astronomy with these fun questions. It is appropriate for middle school science or technology classes.

Students create a presentation in either Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides with information about their topic.

In this lesson, students are provided with links to other resources and tutorials to help them with their project. Students create a presentation about a topic of interest related to the Cold War from a provided list after researching the topic. They use that information along with graphics, pictures and backgrounds from the Internet to create a finished presentation that explains their topic, and add their own opinions and insights to the project.

This is an excellent creative project to add to a unit on the Cold War. The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be used with upper elementary or high school students.

No download is required to use Canva (www.canva.com) - a free product, making it easy for teachers who are not able to download software on classroom computers to still give their students a choice in learning.

In this lesson, students are provided with a quick tutorial, as well as links to other resources to help them with their project. The tutorial is intended to help students get started with the program and then use the resources within the program to refine their creations. Students create a scrapbook about what their life would be like as an immigrant, either in the past or present after researching the topic. They use that information along with graphics, pictures and backgrounds from the Internet and also supplied in Canva, to create a finished scrapbook that shows their “experience” as an immigrant.

This is an excellent creative project to add to the end of a unit on Immigration. The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be used with upper elementary or high school students.
