EDITABLE Blending Pyramids - Continuous Blending Activity - Google Sheets™!

By Tech for Teaching

Always aligned to your curriculum!

Build confidence with blending three, four, or five phoneme words with this continuous blending activity including high frequency words and sentences!

Do your beginning readers struggle to blend sounds correctly? Do they know the sounds and say them but are not yet able to read three or four phoneme decodable words accurately? Are they not able to recall the first phoneme after saying the second or third?

Students who struggle with working memory or have slower processing speed may struggle when beginning to decode words, even when they know the sounds. Continuous blending or successive blending is an effective strategy that will improve your students' accuracy with sound blending.

Generate continuous blending activities and create supplemental materials using decodable words from your curriculum or text! Pre-teach or reenforce words from the text and build confidence with three, four, and five phoneme words - even words with digraphs!

Simply enter the phonemes into the bottom row to generate the pyramid! Huge time saver!

How I use this resource:

  • Students say each phoneme from top to bottom, adding one phoneme at a time until all phonemes have been voiced and can be blended to read the decodable word.
  • If using the sheets that include writing, students write the word below the pyramid. Go back and decode each word again until they can be read independent of the pyramid.
  • Practice the high-frequency/heart words.
  • Read the words within a sentences.
  • Create pyramids that focus on a specific skill such as beginning blends or digraph "sh."
  • Pre-teach words within a text to reduce cognitive load and increase fluency while the passage is being read.

What's included:

One Google Sheets™ workbook with a table of contents with links and ten additional tabs where the three, four, or five phoneme pyramids can be created in a variety of formats.

⭐️ Use again and again!

Check out these additional Google Sheets™ tools! Always aligned to your curriculum!

Digital Resource | End of Year Writing Activity | ABC Memory Book

By Aimee in Elementary

This is a digital product designed to be used with Google Classroom or another assignment sharing platform. Students will need to have a gmail account to access this.

Students will come up with a word to represent each letter of the alphabet (each letter has its own slide). The word should have a specific meaning for that year. For example, students will avoid putting general words like “book”, and instead write the specific name of a book read in that grade. That way, they have this to look back on and remember the year! They will write a short description of why the chose the word, and insert an image to go along with the word!

Students can work independently or in groups. Although this is an ABC book, it is appropriate and fun for any grade level! Students will need to get creative to think of words specific to that year.
