By Geography & Math Made Easy
UNDERSTANDING & READING GRAPHS & CHARTS IN GEOGRAPHY
INTRODUCTION ACTIVITY
This lesson is an introductory lesson to (1) prepare students and a climate students with the different types of graphs and charts, (2) to understand the difference between a graph and a chart, (3) begin learning to decipher the data each represents and (4) how each represents the data.
OBJECTIVE:
o The learner will understand the difference between a graph and a chart and will be able to identify each.
o The learner will recognize 14 graphs and/or charts.
o The learner will interpret 14 graphs and/or charts.
MATERIALS:
o Reading Activity: (2 pages) Is it a Graph or Chart? (Included)
o 14 Graph & Map Stations (Included)
o List of graphs & charts (Included)
o Laminate- Laminate all 14 stations and list of graphs and charts for future use and
durability. o Blue painters tape to display stations on the wall throughout the
classroom
o Rulers for each station for students to use in reading the graphs.
o Student answer sheet, one per student or one per team to save paper and ink.
(Included)
o Exit Cards (Included)
o Timer to measure time at each station.
PREPARATION:
Laminate each station and the list of chart and graph names for each station. The list of chart and graph names will be used as a reference for students. Prepare each station with a ruler and any other supplies that may be needed.
INTRODUCTION:
Either show an introduction video (there are some suggestions below) or have students participate in the introduction activity.
PROCEDURE:
Reading Activity: Organize the class into teams of 2-4, at the teacher’s discretion. Have student groups read and discuss the student reading activity (2 pages included).
Carousel Activity: Student groups will rotate from one station to the next answering four (4) questions at each station and identifying each graph and/or chart. Based on the information provided in the reading on how to determine a graph and/or chart, students will identify each station as a graph or chart, how the data is being displayed, the name of the graph or chart, and provide an interpretation of each. Provide groups 3 minutes at each station; use a timer. You may cut down on the number of stations if- your class time is more limited. Students will work together to complete the questions for each station on their Student Answer Sheet. When the timer goes off, all groups will move on to the next station. Once the carousel activity is complete, display each chart and answer and discuss them together allowing students to correct their answers.

Sequences and nth term | Introducing Algebra
By LittleStreams
This is the fifth and final workbook in our Introducing Algebra series.
This pack is filled with worksheets designed to introduce students to patterns and linear sequenes, and to develop an understanding of the nth term, and how to use it to find any term of the sequence. It covers some common sequences that are not linear, such as square numbers and the fibonacci sequence, but doesn’t require finding or using the nth term of these. Each worksheet is differentiated 3 ways.
Also included are the same worksheets, but put into differentiated workbooks, so you can hand these to your students to use as homework, or an ongoing project.
The worksheets consist of the following:
Worksheet 1 Patterns of Shapes - introduces students to basic patters using shapes.
Worksheet 2 Gaps in the Sequence - introduces number sequences, and what rules they follow (for example, starting at 2, add 3 to each term).
Worksheet 3 Function Machines - solidifies the link between a rule and a pattern by using Function Machines.
Worksheet 4 Fencing In - covers 2 pages, and follows a pattern of fences. Students find the next in the sequence. For the highest differentiation of this worksheets, students need to already know how to find an nth term.
Worksheet 5 Dinner Table Conundrum - similar to worksheet 4, with a focus on following a pattern of tables and chairs. Differentiation 1 does not require the nth term.
Worksheet 6 Fishing for Sequences - involves finding numbers that match a pattern. Both the nth term and the rule for the sequence is given.
Worksheet 7 The nth Term - requires students to both find the nth term of a linear sequence, and to find terms of a given nth term.
Worksheet 8 Riddle Me This - consists of a riddle that reveals a famous mathematician.
Worksheet 9 Nth Term in Words - delves deeper into recognising linear sequences and understanding how to find specific terms and checking if a given value will appear in the sequence.
Worksheet 10 Fibonacci and Pascal’s Triangle - offers a challenge by looking at both the Fibonacci Sequence and Pascals Triangle
This is available in a bundle along side Factoring and substitution, One and Two step equations, Forming and solving Linear Equations and Sequences and nth Term. If you get the bundle, you'll also receive a free revision test and check list. (If you have purchased these individually, or bought 3 workbooks from the bundle, get in touch at littlestreams@gmail.com and we will send you the revision booklet in an email).

This printable journal covers many skills:
Counting (1-4)
Number recognition
Number writing
Shapes (circle, triangle)

Following Directions
This is great for littles that are just learning the routine of sitting and doing a quick activity. It is great for teaching how to listen and follow directions. Two journal covers are included, a color one and a B/W one. Each page/day has 3 quick activities. There are 4 weeks in the journal, with each week having 4 days worth of activities, so 16 days/journals in all. At the bottom of the page, students can cut the St. Patrick’s items, so they can finish the pattern. This page is in color, but doesn’t need to be printed in color because the items on the abacus frame helps distinguish the numbers. 1 colored page to match the pattern.
Activity #4 - Students count the St. Patrick’s items, write the number and then find the abacus that matches the amount of St. Patrick’s items. 2 Pages of counting and find the abacus with different numbers on each page.
Activity #5 - This activity is matching the St. Patrick’s items and abacus with the numbered pot of gold. 2 pages of Match the pot of gold. Each page is a different set of numbers.
Activity #6 - As students sees the abacus on the St. Patrick’s item, they color the circled number that is represented on the abacus. Included is also a video tutorial. 2 pages with each box a different number.

Activity #8 - A color by number activity, students can choose a color to represent the number and then color the picture the abacus represents. 2 pages of color by number, each page has different numbers.
Activity #9 - Pixel Art activity, students choose a color to represent the number, tract the number word and then color the matching number in the picture to discover the pixel art. 1 page for the pixel art.
Activity #10 - Abacus maze, students practices counting forwards to find the path to the pot of gold. Students starts with St. Patty to help him find his way to the pot of gold. Then students will practice counting backwards to help St. Patty find his way to the pot of gold. There are 2 pages. One page to count forward and one page to count backward.
Activity #11 - Comparing the abacus with the number. This activity introduces greater than and less than critical thinking.
For example, the page with the number 1, as the student looks at each circle with the abacus, is the abacus greater than the number 1, less than the number 1 or the same. If the abacus is greater than the number on the page students will write the greater than symbol ( > ). If the abacus is less than the number on the page, then students will write the less than symbol ( < ). If the abacus is the same as the number on the page, then students will color the abacus with the circle. This activity is 11 pages which includes 1 number per page from zero to ten.

Have them start off completing the word search with vocabulary associated with the antiderivative and indefinite integral. Go through the guided notes and the examples with them (or they can do it alone with the guidance of the notes). Then have them work with a partner to complete the partner problems. After that they will complete the independent practice to see what they understand on their own. You can assign them the HW for the night. The next day they can summarize what they learned, reflect on what was challenging and what was not and then rate themselves on a scale of 1-4 to self assess how well they understood this lesson.
TOPICS:
- Evaluating the Indefinite Integral
ANSWER KEY INCLUDED.
WHAT YOU GET:
>> DO NOW: Students will complete a short word search to familiarize themselves with the vocabulary associated with the antiderivative. They will fill in a chart reflecting on words they have heard of and have not.
