Pioneer Activity Packet - Then and Now
By Rachel Thiry
The activities in this packet are part of our classroom Social Studies center. During each Social Studies unit I set out a variety of artifacts for students to explore. Artifacts for our Then and Now unit include: books about pioneers, animal models, animal footprint cards, covered wagon model, spun wool, “old” kitchen utensils (dipper, pot, etc.). I put out a different activity every few days for a two week period. Students work independently on each activity during their daily five time or when they have completed their assignments. They use the artifacts to help complete each activity. For example, students can use the pioneer books to search for common and proper nouns or use the books to confirm pioneer facts and opinions. The activities include: -common and proper noun search -making words activity -pioneer fact and opinion -then or now sort This packet is a great addition to your Then and Now unit.
French Classroom Decor Posters-Class Routines-Les routines-Responsibilities
By La trousse de Madame
These fun and engaging posters aim to foster independence and autonomy in the French Immersion classroom for your young K-2 students. Posters are used as visual cues and reminders of morning routines helping students to do things on their own. Ideal for the Kindergarten to Grade 2 classroom.
I use these posters in my cubby area as a visual checklist for students each day as they arrive. I also post visual cues for work time with the order of operations for each task. 1. write your name, 2. colour, 3. cut, 4. glue, and 5. raise your hand. The order is for you to choose.
When my students are brand new to cutting and pasting into scrapbooks they: write their name, cut, raise their hand (so I can check before they glue), glue, and then colour. It’s entirely up to you!
Posters include:
Each poster great graphics so students can easily associate the picture with the action. Clear step by step instructions. Regular sized poster so you can copy and go, or larger sized numbers and cards for placing into pocket charts.
Slogans included:
Appropriate audience:
I use these posters in my French Immersion classroom with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students. I feel confident that they could be used for any grade from K-6 and for those students with IEP or special needs learning in a French environment.

Jour de la TERRE Headbands-Earth Day Headband Activity-French and English
By La trousse de Madame
Earth Day Activity for K-3 students in English and French.
Making these fun and simple no prep headbands are always a HIT with the littles. A quick no prep activity is just what every teacher needs. Copy, cut and paste. Students can wear these all day on Earth Day or build their activity badges and complete them at the end of Earth Week!
How to use this:
Set it out as a self-guided activity with materials, pencils, glue sticks, and scissors for students to use.
Create the headbands as a whole class activity and watch as students help each other measure the headbands together.
Teacher assisted for the littles, and you can easily cut and glue (or staple if that is easier).
Directions:
-Colour the earth and one set of the activity badges
-attach black line versions of the badges two to each side of each piece of the band
-colour a badge as students earn the badges by completing the Earth Day activity: recycle plastic, turn off lights, composting, and putting things in the recycle bin
-with all badges coloured in, students can mount them on their headband and complete the Earth Day band
What grade level is appropriate?
I personally feel that this resource is ideal for any students from K-2 although those in Grade 3 may love these headbands too!
I hope you enjoy this resource and that you will check out some other items in my shop. If you love this item, I would really appreciate a review and a follow by clicking the green star by my name!
What's in the resource?
-gorgeous earth clipart for easy printing or colouring
-4 slogans for each of the colour or black and white versions
-Jour de la Terre, J'apprecie la Terre, Je protege la Terre, and Je fais ma part pour la Terre
-Happy Earth Day, I appreciate the Earth, I protect the Earth, and I do my part for the Earth
-4 colour versions in French with badges and headband pieces
-4 black and white versions in French with badges and headband pieces
-4 colour versions in English with badges and headband pieces
-4 black and white version in English with badges and headband pieces
