Le jeu des sept familles - This classic card game is fun for students of all ages! Looking for easy prep literacy activities for independent work during differentiated reading instruction? This version of the game is for practicing ALLER PRESENT TENSE CONJUGATIONS and PLACES.

Each of the 7 "families of cards" begins with one of the following, and conjugations in the present tense are used in the JE - TU - IL - NOUS - VOUS - ILS forms.

42 playing cards to print on heavy paper or card stock

This card game is an excellent way to practice and memorize verb conjugations. It will have your students speaking to each other in French the whole time! They will make affirmative and negative statements and will use EST-CE QUE to form simple questions.

One player distributes five cards to each player (2 to 4 per group). The rest of the cards are placed in the "pioche". One player begins the game by asking another player to give him a card. He or she might say, "Est-ce que tu vas au parc?"

The goal is to come up with complete families. The different verbs represent the families. There are 6 cards to a family (JE - TU - IL - NOUS- VOUS - ILS). Students will find it helpful to group together the cards that have the same picture at the top (flower, flip-flops, etc.) If the player doesn't have it, he says "pioche". If he draws the card that he asked for, he can continue to play and ask someone for another card. Each time a player comes up with all six members of a family, he can make a stack. At the end of the game, the player with the most sets of families wins!

Print and Go, easy to read and understand French Sound Cards aligned with the Science of Reading SOR to support you in teaching in your K-2 classroom in French Immersion, Core French, or Modern Language Standard 1.0. Flip Card decks are so handy for the classroom. I use them in small group work to assess and teach specific sounds, combinations of CV sounds, and to decode words together. The large format cards are great for my Grade 1 students as we can do a lot of whole class instruction and the students have so much fun coming up to the front of the class to come up with the 'really hard' CV combinations for their peers to read out loud.

Use the smaller sets for learning centres, individual work, and pair work as your students get familiar with their phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. My students happen to love 'testing' each other by flipping the cards, saying the sound, and then waiting as their 'students' write what they think is the correct letter on their whiteboards!

We love them so much as we can sneak in a little decoding and Science of Reading whenever we get a minute or two of time to fill.

Who can use this resource:

Any French educator who is wanting to practice, assess, and deepen their students understanding of sound work in French. This item is suitable for French Immersion, Core French, and French instruction at any level. Students in the Core French environment can benefit from using these sets independently for writing assignments and group activities. Immersion teachers will find these flip cards useful for any students from Grades 1 to 4 who need an extra boost to building a stronger phonological awareness and phonemic awareness. This coincides beautifully with the 'Heggerty type' approach to French Instruction being introduced in many provinces in Canada.

Être - Aller - Avoir - Faire - Primary French Conjugation Chains -Cut and Paste

This literacy center or independent work activity for primary core French or primary French immersion is a fun, hands-on way for your students to practice conjugating être, aller, avoir and faire in the present tense. Each verb page has ten strips to cut out. The first one indicates the infinitive, and the following nine strips are for conjugating the subject pronouns JE - TU - IL - ELLE - ON - NOUS - VOUS - ILS - ELLES. Students begin by filling in the blanks to add the correct present tense conjugations. The number of letters needed for the conjugations is indicated by the number of blanks provided to help students while learning or reviewing. Next, they cut out the strips and paste them together forming conjugation chains. They'll love hanging them up around the classroom!

Make a few copies of each card and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, encoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. Students use whiteboard markers to sound out each sound in the word, each syllable, or each word in the sentence. What a great way to build confidence! Whatever way you choose to use this resource, I am so grateful that you have given this item a try!

Science of Reading:

These sentence strips are aligned with sounds being taught in any Science of Reading aligned curriculum. They are set up for student success based on the research for increasing reading fluency and building student confidence in the classroom!

Once you have established the strategies for identifying sounds, initial sounds, and blending sounds, segmenting sounds, students will be able to use these self-driven sentence strips on their own. What a great way to build learning autonomy!

-5 pages with 2 sentences each with focus on the UI sound

-tapping boxes for students to tap and map each word in the sentence

-space to write the sentence out themselves once they have decoded and segmented the words/sentence

-5 additional cards without boxes for students to work on their own

-each page can be cut in half to make 10 separate sentence strips

-just laminate and go!

Who can use this resource:

French Immersion teachers in the K-3 classroom and those teaching beginner French students. Can be used at the Grade 4-6 level with Core French students learning to segment and blend complex sounds.

What grade level:

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.

This is a set of 30 task cards for reviewing or practicing time. All times are represented as digital clocks, so this can be used in any language. The only times included are on the hour (:00), a quarter past (:15), half past (:30), and quarter 'til (:45). You can use these cards for in-class review, a board game, a centers activity, or for the game SCOOT! This includes 2 answer keys, one in numerals and one in the Spanish.
