Less than $5 Black History Month Projects (by date, oldest first)

Three great activities to celebrate Black History Month this February! Activities include:

--Webquest / Internet Scavenger Hunt (includes answer key)

--Research / Poster project (Microsoft Word) (Student instructions, sample poster, and rubric)

--Word Search Puzzle (includes answer key)

These three short activities are a great way to raise awareness during Black History Month and can each be completed in one or two class periods.

Resources for teacher and students are included with the unit.

This lesson was created for middle school students (grades 6-8) but could also be used for upper elementary students.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

In this lesson, students learn interesting facts about the NASA’s Space Race and the women behind the scenes as they complete several projects including a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic.    A complete answer key is provided for the WebQuest for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students.  The student questions are included in both a print version and a digital (editable) version to make it easy for students to complete the lesson digitally or on paper.  Also included with this lesson is a word search puzzle which is perfect for early finishers or as a part of the lesson. 

This lesson is intended to be an introduction to the topic and was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in high school as well.  This lesson could be used in a history or technology class, as an activity during Black History Month or Women's History Month,  and is also a great lesson to leave for a substitute teacher!

A Titanic Disaster Escape Room activity. Ideal for fifth grade or sixth grade, the activity is perfect for group work, starting a new topic, team-building activities or for a fun, engaging and interactive lesson. The activity can be used in English class as it incorporates some ELA skills or in Social Studies.

The activity has been split into four different tasks; your students will need to complete each of the tasks to reveal a word. Together the four words make a phrase for them to escape the room.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about the Titanic disaster and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards about important historical events from the 1900s before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.

A Jackie Robinson Escape Room activity. In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Jackie Robinson and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards about important events or figures from African American athletes in the history of sport before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.

Students can then complete their student answer key with the four words they revealed before checking with the teacher to see if they have escaped successfully.

The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.

A biography writing unit about the life of basketball superstar, Stephen Curry. The NO PREP unit, which has been updated to include the 2022 NBA Championship victory, has been split into four separate lessons and is perfect for students in third grade or fourth grade. Students will learn about the famous figure whilst working on their comprehension skills and developing their creative writing.

• Three fact sheets which students need to cut out and sort into paragraphs
• Writing templates for four draft paragraphs
• Two prompt sheets for students to write their introduction and conclusion
• A template for students to write up their neat biography text
• A crossword puzzle & wordsearch activity to consolidate learning

The first lesson is interactive and involves students cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. In the final lesson students need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work on to a neat copy on the template provided.
