Desert Island Explorer is an engaging, two-week game-based sub unit designed for grades 5 to 9, offering an immersive and bilingual experience centered around the theme of desert islands. This project-based learning module combines elements of language arts, science, and teamwork to enhance students' critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative skills.

• Lessons are provided in English, and all activities within are French and English.
• These products work in English or French classrooms.

Nothing is more stressful than having to leave work for an extended time: our profession requires us to plan, to create engaging resources, and to assume the subs covering have French capabilities. We all know that's... not the reality of this profession. When you've gotta be out, you've gotta be out, and frankly, when you're in this position, you've not got the time, energy or mental health to allow for this level of planning. That's where I come in! This ressource covers you for roughly two weeks: providing your sub with direction in English, and activities in both English and French to ensure a seamless absence... This is an engaging digital breakout room that is NO PREP! Students will enjoy this digital breakout website that has them solve four logic puzzles to find all the necessary keys to beat the leprechauns puzzle and win the pot of gold! Students will use the Google Form that's embedded in the website to fill in their guesses for the passwords. They will get an immediate response on whether their guess was correct, (which will allow them to go to the next rooms submission), or tell them to try again. This website is great for struggling readers as well because an AI avatar is able to read all directions/information aloud to the student if needed.

HOW IT WORKS:

Print the clues and cut them in half

Fold the clues in half and hide them WELL in the hiding spots provided (see the list of hiding spots below_

A “secret mission” is read

Clue # 1 is handed to the “treasure seeker” which leads to clue 2 in a different location

Players can decode the code words on each clue as they go, or all at the same time once they’ve found all the clue cards, then write them on the answer sheet

Collect all the letters in the shaded areas on the answer sheet, then unscramble them to reveal the secret code word leading them to the final prize

The final prize is up to you! Maybe it’s a birthday gift, candy, party favors, or a handwritten letter about your next vacation. The possibilities are endless as to what you choose to hide in the final location.
