This is a bundle of 14 Lessons that introduce various topics of World Cultures. Topics include Types of Maps, Continents and Oceans, 50 States, Government, Economics, Culture, Inventions, and Landmarks.

Geography summer school and camps don't give us enough time to cover all the concepts and topics that need to be covered. Squeezing the curriculum

8 months is difficult; covering it over 6-8 weeks is impossible. There is so much information and so little time. This leaves us as educators with the question of what are the important aspects to cover. Having taught middle school level and high school level geography for 11 years, I have pulled out what I feel is a must!

A working knowledge of geography concepts is helpful in teaching this material. If you do not understand geography or if you have never taught geography before, no problem! Simply, read through the student material so you can help your students understand and complete the included activities. Before presenting it to your students, this will require a little mental preparation; however, this resource will save you 20+ hours of resource prep.

Does this take a full semester? No, not as created. Most econ classes have a personal finance unit or international unit as well. This lesson is based on my own personal experience as a participant on a USA-Mexico border tour project organized by Rethinking Schools & Global Exchange that provided first-hand experience and knowledge concerning the effects of U.S. foreign policy, such as NAFTA, on the lives of ordinary people who reside in the Tijuana area. Students will be prompted to delve far beyond the mainstream explanation that answers the critical question as to why people cross the U.S.-Mexico border. This lesson will have students examine the broader context, and underlying factors to this question, which intimately tie itself to Mexico's agricultural economy. Students will identify the causal puzzle pieces, and then create a ‘LOOP’ (web) diagram that will serve to demonstrate their understandings of how these underlying causes interconnect with one another. Get students up and moving:

This activity gets students up to get or wait for crayons. All students are coloring a picture based on directions using a limited amount of crayons. The teacher brokers the use of crayons. Students will begin to understand the concept of supply and demand as they find the crayons they need are not available for their use and require them to wait. My students stuggledthe most with not sharing crayons with other students. Students can follow up with reflection questions that lead to a deeper level of knowledge.

An option extension explores the misunderstanding of land use that caused great difficulty between the Indigenous People and British Colonists. This extension demonstrates the Indigenous belief that the land couldn't be owned, just used and the British belief that land was to be owned, not just used. This optional part of the activity leads to interesting discussion. Students can follow up withe reflection questions that lead to a deeper level of knowledge.

These activities align with Indiana Social Studies standards 5.E.1, 5.E.5.
