This social story is designed to teach children the importance of being kind and gentle with animals, especially pets. It helps children understand that animals have feelings too and that we must treat them with care and respect.

This social story is perfect for helping children learn how to interact with pets in a kind and respectful way. Ideal for use by parents, teachers, or caregivers to foster empathy and compassion for animals.

What is included?

As well as a 18 page social story there is also a shorted adapted book version of the story with movable pictures to attach to each page.

Why do you need this?

The point of a social story is to use a patient and reassuring tone to teach children about social situations in a way that can be easily understood. Social stories can be useful for any child who is struggling to understand a situation or concept or needs help to understand a social skill or social cue, expectations, perspectives, common responses or is troubled about an upcoming event but social stories are particularly useful for children on the autistic spectrum for whom social cues can be challenging and who often suffer anxiety if they do not know what to expect from a situation.

How and when might you use this?

· To implement a social story, you should first ensure that you have eliminated distractions; that it is just you and the child sitting together focussed on the story.

· Initially you should read the story through twice with the child but it is then vital to revisit it regularly.

· Try to find a way to incorporate the story into the child's daily schedule.

· If the story is relating to a particular inappropriate behavior, it is useful to read the story when this behavior occurs, you do not however want the story to be seen as any kind of punishment.

· Regularly praise your child and keep it a positive experience.

These books should be used over and over to reinforce the point so I would suggest either putting the pages into a display book or laminating and binding them.

Student's need to know they are valued and appreciated. In this generation, teens have developed their own language based on what is happening in teen culture. Slang words are unconsciously used in our everyday language by students in all grades, and even by teachers, and will continue to evolve faster than we know! – Word!

Many people identify slang as being “street.” In that case, students can be “street” and STILL HAVE SOCIAL SKILLS!

This resource is centered around 28 HIGHLY RELEVANT social skills scenarios using SLANG WORDS**. (That's right! It's time to get down with your kids! They will think you are the BOMB.COM!)** Students are asked to read scenarios (in their own created "slang" language) and think about how they can respectfully handle certain situations.

The scenarios feature 7 different topics, FOUR scenarios for each of the following topics:

• Dealing with HATERS
• Dealing with BULLIES
• Dealing with LIARS
• Dealing with SNITCHES

The resource includes a list of all the slang words, with their meanings, used in the Task Cards and Worksheets. I organized it in the following manner: Task Card Scenario numbers correspond with the slang words used in the scenarios. This will allow you to make meaning of slang words being used, so you can get down better with your students! -Lit!

How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards

• Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate appropriate responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to show how skills are used improperly and then asking the 'audience' to help reenact properly. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.
• Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.
• Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skit for the class.
• Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios.
• Discussion: Students can discuss the Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class. They can discuss things like “What would you do?”, "How can your respectfully handle this situation," “Why would you do that?”, and “What are some other options you could consider?”

A love meditation for children

Don't forget to check out the new resources I have below the description! Lots of fun Seasonal, Prek and Kindergarten Activities to print!

This is a behavior chart worksheet that can be filled out by the child with the teacher. It is supposed to help younger children think about their behavior and how they can improve it They should fill this out after they have been sitting in the thinking chair and had their consequence. Teacher prints off multiple worksheets and places on the left side of the child's folder. Staple one of the 0-4 strips to the folder with a paper clip for the child to move along as they get a consequence. This way it is private and other students can't see how many they have. When you fill out the consequence form, list the child's name, the date, and what consequence they are on. The child should circle how they feel and draw what they did wrong, and say an I will statement such as "I will sit quietly on the rug and listen to the teacher.". Then the teacher writes in what the consequence was and files the paper on the right side of the folder. Each month go through the child's folder and staple the forms to be saved and fill in the area that says if they have improved their behavior. This gives the teacher easy documentation. To show parents how many consequences the child had for the day, prepare a calendar with 1 circle in each day box and child will put the number of consequences they had for the day based on what their folder says.
