This is a printable Valentine's Day activity with little prep. All you need is a box of conversation hearts for each student. They will use their conversation hearts to write the total fractions of each color and each saying. Once they have written the fractions they will then answer a few questions about their fractions. Do your students need a Question of The Day for February? Using a Question of The Day can lead to tremendous growth academically and socially. The Question of The Day Fun can be utilized during your Morning Meeting time along with your greeting and other activities. 

There are Valentine’s Day questions, Black History Month questions, and kindness questions. All of the questions are on a Google Slide and can be used every morning during your Morning Meeting routine. All you have to do is bring up the Google Slide each morning and have the slide ready to go for that day. There are 20 EDITABLE and DIVERSE slides just for the month of February! 

Students will create connections and develop deep discussions with the questions.  Therefore, the skills they are learning during Morning Meeting will lead to connections within their reading texts. Students who practice those skills outside of reading will most likely utilize those same skills while reading. 

Additionally, the February Question of The Day will create deep relationships between you and your students! If you have the other Morning Meeting Slides than you understand how powerful these questions can be!  

This is also an excellent resource to use with your remote learners as well. You could assign one or more slides to their learning management system for morning meetings and writing or reading activities.

WAYS TO USE TASK CARDS: Ideas for fun holiday math activities and other ways to engage students before winter break

• Play SCOOT- Place each card on a desk and give students the recording sheet. Students will scoot between stations as they solve problems. 

• Set up a scavenger hunt- place cards around room as students do a gallery walk and work on solving problems in pairs or independently

• Four Corners for multiple choice- Determine which corner of the room will represent answer A, B, C, and D: display a digital version of the Task Card, give students thinking time, then students go to the corner of the answer they choose.

• Morning work, warm up, bell ringer- display task card digitally

• Small group guided practice- easily differentiate and scaffold in small math groups

• Mini lessons- guide and model how to solve word problems for students

• Independent practice during math rotations or math centers

• Partner work during math rotations or math centers

• Exit ticket or check for understanding using Google Forms

HOW TO UTILIZE DIGITAL VERSIONS?

• Project task cards using the Google slides version 
• Students complete task cards directly in Google Form (use as check point, assessment, check for understanding)- super easy NO PREP paperless option
• Students complete task cards in Google slides or using the physical task cards, record answers on the record sheet, and then transfer answers to Google form.
