Animal Research Writing Flipbook | Social Studies Habitat Unit | Fun Craftivity

By Sweet Maple Teaching

The animal research craft writing project is an exciting and educational activity where students can choose from 50 different wild animals to explore and learn about. This flipbook craft provides a creative platform for students to write detailed information about their chosen animal, supported by multiple note catcher pages for jotting down key facts and observations. Students will write sentences, color, and draw illustrations that depict their animal’s habitat, behaviors, and survival strategies. Animal templates include:

Hippopotamus, panda, polar bear, wolf, fox, poison dart frog, anaconda, moose, emperor penguin, elephant, platypus, sheep, cheetah, gazelle, cougar/panther, red panda, beaver, sloth, lemur, lion, porcupine, deer, crocodile, grizzly bear, kangaroo, hyena, lynx, tiger, zebra, jaguar, quokka, rhinoceros, giraffe, chimpanzee, gorilla, koala, capybara, tortoise, vampire bat, alpaca, camel, buffalo, owl, armadillo, mountain goat, mustang, jackrabbit, skunk, walrus, stingray, great white shark, hammerhead shark, blue whale, orca whale, jellyfish, dolphin, sea turtle, puffer fish, octopus, starfish, sea dragon/seahorse, and narwhal.

An interactive Slide Presentation will help guide the groups on their journey… along with prompting students to delve deeper by examining the broader issues of sustainability, waste, and identifying the main differences between ‘developed’ and ‘developing’ countries.

Land Biomes of the United States: Six Non-Fiction Texts in BLACK and WHITE

By Science and STEAM Team

This resource contains six non-fiction texts about biomes of the United States. It was made for the NGSS 3-LS2 Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics.

It covers the following biomes:

desert

grasslands

tropical rainforest

temperate forest

taiga

tundra

The passages were written with third graders in mind, but the information is very interesting and would be useful for upper grades as well. Some passages are shorter than others and have less complex language so that you can easily differentiate for students.

There is a tips sheet for teachers and a recording sheet for students on which they can note where the biome is found, the average annual precipitation, the average temperature, and plants and animals of the biome. Students respond to a question asking if they would like to live and that biome and tell why or why not.
