How can you use this resource?

⭐Build all the task cards in one sitting. This typically takes 1 – 2 hours to complete the set.

⭐Have the task cards available alongside STEM and STEAM bins, makerspaces, centers, tubs, busy boxes, morning baskets, or available for early finishers to complete using any available materials. Students can even draw their creations instead of building them!

⭐Complete one challenge a day in conjunction with the different ASK, BRAINSTORM, PLAN, CREATE, TEST, and REFLECTION prompts. These can be used as class/partner discussion, or as a writing or journal prompt.

⭐Use them for public speaking practice. Allow students to build as many cards as predetermined, followed by show and tell with the class, or their families. Use the Discussion Questions to help guide this portion. Students can practice speaking and listening skills, using loud and clear voices, and giving full attention to the speaker. Encourage students to ask questions to their classmates.

⭐Perfect for partner or group work! Allow students to work with partners, or in groups with specific roles as they problem solve together.

I love stories that bring adventure to life for kids, which force them to use their imaginations in fun and exciting ways. This challenge task set does exactly that through the loose storyline. Interesting scenarios, adventure and disaster, problem solving and learning, are all part of the experience when building these challenges.

Most building challenge task cards are independent from each other. “Build a boat,” or “build an airplane,” are common themes among the cards. While those are fantastic, and we have done many of them ourselves, I wanted to do something different and more cohesive and engaging for kids.

One of the exciting things about this set, is the randomness that occurs with each card. I strongly suggest that children pick only one card (waiting for other children participating to finish each card before moving on), and not previewing what is on the other cards prior to building. Sammie Steam was designed to look like a cross between the scientist Albert Einstein and the artist Leonardo da Vinci. This packet contains many suggested Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math challenges. It was created with the purpose of getting families actively involved with their children by completing challenges that will have them all having fun! Sammie STEAM, the adventure dog, will become your students' companion as they complete these activities outside of the school day. This will help foster a strong home/school relationships! As the children complete the activities and share them with the class other students will eagerly join in! It is a perfect way to encourage the students to make connections from one academic area to the other. This package offers differentiated ways for the students to document their STEAM experience.
