This 90-minute lesson plan introduces Grade 1–3 students to the meaning and history of Father’s Day through an engaging video, interactive discussion, and hands-on activities. Using the animated YouTube video “Father’s Day” students learn about the origins of the celebration, including stories of Sonora Dodd and Grace Golden Clayton.
The lesson begins with a warm-up discussion, followed by a video viewing and guided comprehension questions. Students then complete a colorful worksheet with true/false questions, matching activities, a crossword, a wordsearch, and a drawing task to reinforce understanding. The lesson concludes with a creative card-making activity where students design heartfelt Father’s Day cards and write short thank-you messages to their dads or caregivers.
This lesson encourages students to express gratitude, develop their listening and comprehension skills, and explore the importance of family relationships in a fun and meaningful way. All materials, including the worksheet and answer key, are provided to support easy implementation in the classroom.
Group Mural Art: Winter Concert Decorations.
By Art Shack by JB
This creative Winter Concert Decorations: Art Unit was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this PDF file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on the big screen. For this assignment, I asked students to get with a partner or into small groups and brainstorm subject matter, orientation, and theme of the overall composition. Plus, decide which group member(s) will be in charge of what to draw and where to draw it. Students will need to sketch out ideas first inside a sketchbook, transfer the sketches to Final Copy Paper, outline the large image, and start coloring in everything with crayon. Sadly, most other art materials will ruin the roll paper. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy!
