These differentiated graphic organizers align with the skill “Retell” from HMH. I created them with the language proficiency levels of ENL students in mind. They can support beginner/entering level to advanced/commanding ELLs! With 5 versions to choose from, your students will be able to retell in no time! 

All versions include the “I can” statement, visual examples and the HMH anchor chart for retell. The first page includes boxes for students to illustrate the events in the story, for students who are not writing yet. If students struggle to draw on their own, you can provide them with pictures of the BME of the story to cut and glue into the boxes. The second page includes boxes for students to draw along with primary lines and sentence starters. The next two pages include primary lines with varied support of sentence starters and sequence words. For more advanced students, the last two pages include single spaced lines with varied support of sentence starters and sequence words. All of the supports are combined into one paper for easy access when modifying material. How It Works:

1. Choose a Subject: Students select an individual to research. This could be anyone from historical figures, scientists, artists, to contemporary leaders or influencers. Frida Kahlo is pre-filled in one version of this template.
