If you are anything like me you hate using physical cards because you lose them, or just simply set them down and forget where you set them. I create slides for each day of instruction. This helps to create seamless transitions from each subject.

I love having these sound cards in my Powerpoint because I can add or delete sounds throughout the year and shuffle them around so the kids don't memorize the order!

This resource gives you everything you need to teach Joshua 1-3 and to help preschoolers and kindergarten students to remember. The lesson focuses on the Moses sending the spies into Jericho and the instructions he gives them. Students will learn about the good report as well as how Rahab promises to help them.

This lesson includes:

1. Title Page - Color and Black and White
2. The story of Joshua 1-3 Color and Black and White
3. Where are the Spies? Activity (color, cut, and glue)
4. Memory Verse Poster (KJV but editable if you prefer other translations)
5. Memory Verse Cards (KJV but editable if you prefer other translations)

7. Coloring pages

This lesson takes me about 45 minutes to an hour to teach.

1. How to prep:

I printed and laminated the story pages the evening before. I also printed the coloring page and the memory verse activity sheets the evening before.

Finally, I made sure I had enough glue sticks and scissors.

2. I read the story pages. Students can color while I read to help them focus.

3. I showed the story cards (just smaller versions of the slides that students take home) to students and asked them to repeat as much of the story back to me as they can.

4. Students color the Where Are the Spies? activity.

5. They cut out each box. I have found it's helpful to cut this part of the paper off completely before they have to cut. It's easier for little ones who are just learning to cut. There is a line across the page to show where to cut.

6. They glue the picture in the box.

Why should I choose this resource?

1. The story comes from Scripture but is summarized for young learners. The Word of God is not compromised in the process.

2. There are a variety of coloring pages for students to do during the lesson to help them listen to the story but still busy with a non-linguistic activity so their brains do not have competition between the 2 activities.

3. There are plenty of activities to keep them engaged. (Note: Our church has a worship leader that comes in to teach songs for a few minutes so that is scheduled into our time but there is still plenty to do.)

4. Easy to understand directions throughout the slide when in edit mode.

5. Colorful and engaging pictures to help tell the story for pre-readers or early readers.

6. A chance to work with the story while practicing coloring, cutting, and gluing.

This resource gives you everything you need to teach Joshua 6 and to help preschoolers and kindergarten students to remember. Language learners (at the novice high level) or native speakers. The lesson focuses on the fall of the walls of Jericho as the Israelites obey God's command to march around the city and shout when Joshua gives the word. Students will learn about God's faithfulness to His promises.

Included:

• Story pages with color
• Story pages in black and white, which are great for coloring pages
• Puzzles -a 9 piece and a 4 piece. Another great way to retell the story. Simply cut the puzzle pieces out and have students put them together. Once they see the completed image, you can ask about the pictures and how they fit into the story.
• A counting activity (with answer key) using the pictures from the story. I love to put many skills to use. Students can count the objects and people and tell why they are important.
• Joshua 6:27 flash cards for the memory verse. Editable for a different version if you prefer
• Joshua 6:27 memory verse poster. Again, editable for a different version if you prefer

How to prep:

I printed and laminated the story pages the evening before. I also printed the coloring page and the memory verse activity sheets the evening before.

I read the story pages. Students can color while I read to help them focus.

Students can put the puzzle together and retell again if there is time.

Students can also work on the counting page and verses as well. Print the counting page.

For the memory verse flash cards, print the appropriate pages front/back and cut out. Laminate if you choose.

**This unit is a fun supplement to my Weekly Vocabulary Units but can also be used as a stand alone unit. If you already use the Weekly Vocabulary Units in your classroom, consider switching out a few of the December weeks for these Winter Holiday themed weeks! This is a great way to celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanzaa alongside Christmas in the classroom!**

Looking for a fun way to incorporate themed vocabulary into your classroom or homeschool? Use these weekly thematic word work units to introduce new words and practice spelling, handwriting, sentence building, and drawing.

Each week features a different themed picture or pictures, six vocabulary words to learn, and five days of quick, fun activities using those words. Daily activities are numbered to keep the student on track and are quick enough to be used as morning work or in a literacy center. All units include five weeks (this special unit contains six weeks) of vocabulary work so that in months with four weeks you can choose the themes that best fit your classroom. Also included: black and white versions of all weeks for easier printing.

This unit is great for a classroom but was developed with homeschoolers in mind. The daily format mimics several homeschool vocabulary programs to make it easy to use alongside older siblings. Pair the themes up with your themed unit studies for added learning!
