The Night Before My Birthday captures all the excitement and anticipation that every child experiences in the lead-up to their special day. Teach the ostinato concept using the musical lullaby extension to this well loved book. I wrote a simple lullaby the children can sing at every page turn. As a follow up activity have the students match the animal sounds with the correct animal. Worksheets can be either copied or assigned digitally through the Easel function. Good for students from PreK-2nd grade.

Using this lesson and the book "Pokko and the Drum" by Matthew Forsythe, the children can drum along with Pokko as they follow her journey! Even though the lesson is written to use a frame drum, use any rhythm instruments you have available and modify as you need to. This product is a supplemental activity to make your lessons more engaging! This product is the BANG! word game using decodable words and sight words from 1st Grade Benchmark Literacy Phonics Unit 2. Benchmark Literacy Phonics Unit 2 is beginning r-family blends (br, cr, dr, fr, gr, and tr). This produce includes four pages. The decodable words are on the first two pages and the sight words are on the last two pages. There are a total of 40 card which includes 16 decodable words, 16 sight words, and 8 "BANG!" cards. The cards can also be used as flashcards! Directions on how to play: • Students take turns drawing the cards from a face-down pile and try to say the word on the card. • If they can say the word correctly, they get to keep the card. If they cannot, the card goes on the bottom of the card for someone else to have a chance. If playing with only two students, the partner gets a turn and can keep the card if they know it. • When a Bang! card is drawn from the pile the student who drew it has to return all their cards to the bottom of the pile. The Bang! card is not put back into the can. • The game ends when all the cards are drawn. The student with the most cards is the winner! This game is perfect for partner work or small groups!
