This includes handouts of two speeches: " Ich Bin Ein Berliner" by president John F. Kennedy and " Tear Down This Wall" by president Ronald Reagan. It includes a graphic organizer to help students compare rhetoric and persuasive techniques in both of these speeches in terms of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos.

This 4-page pre-reading handout provides students with important background information for understanding William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. This resource includes a two-page handout on the history of the Roman Republic. The resource also included is a comprehension check and answer key so that teachers can assess whether students have understood important details from the handout.

Learning about the history of the Roman Republic will provide students with the contextual information necessary for understanding certain lines in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. You could have students read this handout for homework before starting the play; or you could have students read the handout aloud together in class before giving them the comprehension check worksheet.

A brief overview of Earth's time periods for students to learn about, and review then apply knowledge to complete their books. Can be used for assessment, journaling activities, history/social studies, for celebrating Earth Day, or as overview of unit on how Earth was formed and changed. The political landscape in the United States is deeply polarized, with Republicans and Democrats often having starkly different positions on many issues. 

Here are ten hot contentious topics that hav been prominent in the political discourse. These topics are highly dynamic, and the positions associated with each party can evolve over time, influenced by current events, leadership changes, and public opinion. Each issue has further been divided into two short stories, or rather scenarios, one from the perspective of a democrat, and one from the perspective of a republican.

SUMMARY:

The Declaration of Independence, in U.S. history, document that was approved by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, explains why the Congress on July 2 “unanimously” by the votes of 12 colonies (with New York abstaining) had resolved that “these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be Free and Independent States.” Students will understand why the United States of America celebrates the Fourth of July, or Independence Day. This work prompts readers/citizens to change our communities, our societies, our world by politely defying our government.

This 10th - 12th grade canonized work allows students to understand the need for standing up for our rights when we feel we are treated unjustly by our own government.

Extension Activity #1: Vietnamese Independence Debate

• Each student will be assigned one of two POINTS OF VIEW (POV);

• Students will analyze four individuals; all of whom revealed information about activity within a private or public organization that was deemed illegal, immoral, illicit, unsafe or fraudulent.
• Students can delve further by referring to the Whistleblower Timeline,  and choosing a whistleblower to research (1700’s to contemporary times). Students will prepare a 3 to 5 minute class presentation.

Palestinian & Israeli: One question Two Perspectives

In this ebook you will find ten questions posed twice. One response is from a Palestinian & one from an Israeli. The views are moderate, but perspectives are clearly seen and can provide comparative insights into their respective perspectives. 

By asking these questions to both interviewees, we can compare the nuanced views that exist on either side of the conflict. It is important to approach these conversations with empathy and an open mind, as the answers will reflect deeply held beliefs and experiences shaped by a complex history and challenging realities.

The questions are followed by 10 potential assignments and projects aimed at a grades 9 to 12.

Here is a list of 10 questions that you can ask both a moderate Gazan Palestinian and a moderate Israeli:

1. Historical Narrative: How do you understand the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and how does that history inform your perspective on the current situation?
2. Personal Impact: In what ways has the conflict directly affected your life and the lives of those closest to you?
3. Security Concerns: How do you perceive the issues surrounding security and safety for your community, and what measures do you believe are necessary to improve them?
4. Political Solutions: What political solution do you envision as being the most fair and sustainable to address the issues of the conflict?
5. Land and Settlements: What is your stance on the issue of land, settlements, and the right of return for refugees?
6. International Role: How do you view the role of international actors, such as the United States or the United Nations, in resolving the conflict?
7. Daily Coexistence: Are there areas of daily life where you see successful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians, and what can be learned from these examples?
8. Education and Misconceptions: What role do you think education plays in perpetuating or resolving the conflict, and what misconceptions might people on each side have about the other?
9. Economic Factors: How do you believe the conflict has shaped the economic situation for Palestinians and Israelis, and what economic changes would you propose to support peace efforts?
10. Vision for Peace: Can you describe your personal vision for peace and how individuals from both societies can contribute to achieving it?

This critical reading activity will have students analyze the Korean War from two different sources of information; each of which take a different position on the underlying causes and effects of this war. Engagement and organizing one’s thoughts is an integral component to this lesson, as students will fill out a KWL chart, along with a T-chart that serves to identify the main differences between each source.
